We are really lucky. It is very easy to change the clutch on our VFRs.
After 100,000 KM I wanted to freshen up the clutch again. Last refresh was at 70,000 KM with used parts and I didn't change the clutch springs.
No special tools are needed:
(1) Drain the oil
(2) Remove the right side faring
(3) Remove the right side clutch cover bolts

(4) Remove the clutch cover:

(5) 1/2 to one turn at a time, remove the 5 clutch bolts:

(6) Remove the clutch basket cover and the clutch plates (friction and metal plates)

(7) Measure the thickness of the friction (non-metal) plates. They should be 0.115" - 0.121" thick. If they are less than 0.100 then they need to be replaced. Mine measured 0.116" - 0.117"
(8) Measure the clutch spring free length. (which I found a little hard sine the spring does easily compress a little) It should be more than 1.62". Mine were 1.688 " - 1.694". New springs are 1.75"
(9) I picked up the EBC clutch springs, as they are 10% firmer than stock. They measured 1.725" - 1.765". They use a little thicker wire for the coil (.096" vs .098") and have one less coil (7 vs 6)
