Helibars

I am considering buying some Helibars for 2006 VFR. Any feedback? Pros? Cons? Are they difficult to install?

I just got them for my 03. I love them. At first I didnt' think they would make that much of a difference but I just put 600+ miles on this weekend and it was noticable the level of comfort I was able to have. A small difference in my arm angle makes a decent difference in my back angle. They were easy to install, the hardest part was getting the old weights out but I just tied a rope to a tree, tied the other end to the screw in the weight and pulled them right out. The hardest part for me was getting the final angle on the bars right. There is no alignment peg or hole so you have to eyeball them and carry an allen wrench for the first few rides so you can do the small adjustments. :fing02:

I'm considering these as well, so I will add to the questions?
Who makes them?
is there just the one hight addition or is there a variety of different heights available?

Who makes them? Helibars. No, not adjustable other than they will freely rotate around the fork.

I installed a set two years ago. Sold my stock bars to a Blackbird owner. Easy to install and one of my favortie mods. They take nothing away from the bike in terms of handling and they add comfort.

Just get them. Last year I tried to get a solution by swapping the left and right bars. That gained clost to an inch up and towards me, but that was not the same as the Helibars. I grabbed the real thing and was sold right then.

Like I said, just get them. You will be pleased.

I went the cheaper route and got the Gen-Mar risers. Same height as the heli-bars now. If I was going to spend the money on helibars I'd probably spend a little more and get the convertibars instead.

I installed Heli-Bars on my 07 a few months ago. The installation was very easy, but you will need a Dremel or small hacksaw to remove an OEM tab. I used a Dremel with a cut off wheel, took 30 seconds, and looked good. The most difficult part of the job for me was getting the bar ends out of the OEM bars, but if you have a bench vise or a helper to hold the bar, it's not that hard. I had no problem re-using the OEM grips, and everything fit perfectly. The entire swap took me a couple of hours. There is a bit of fore/aft adjustability by rotating them on the fork, but you have to be careful to lock them down in a position that won't interfere with your tank or fairing at full steering lock.
The Helibars allow you to sit more upright, and for me, took a lot of weight off my hands and wrists. The resulting seating position is more comfortable for me, and a bit more like my '84 VF750F now.
I highly recommend the Helibars.

Heli bars offer two things the rear set back and adjustable rear sweep. The gen mars dont offer anything , as you can do the same thing with stock clipons gen mars just fill the gap.

Set your fork to height 45mm plus and you can not only lift stock clipons, you can take them out of their detent and move forward. If you like the feel and just want further set back, then you'll have to invest in the helis.

The most uncomfortable thing to me , is the stock rearswwep, cocks your wrists at weird angle, Great for pushing, but not so good on comfort.
