Let's use this thread to coordinate a meet somewhere here in Texas. We need to pick a date and location, then see about setting up accomodations for those riding long distances to get here (even within the state). Something right in the middle of the Hill Country might be good unless someone knows of a better location.
Another idea: Some local VFR riders could open their homes to the out-of-towners to save some $$.
If your organizing it I would suggest just finding a good road, a good place to eat, looking at a weather forcast, time and day, and just picking it yourself. �Then post the details!
You choose, after trying to organize rides by poll I come to the conclusion I am better off just picking it myself, cause otherwise you end up taking too much time deciding and nothing happens in the end. �Conversly you get just as many show as by poll. Might not be good for some folks but at least you nail it down sooner and you get some time to get your kitchen/work pass ready. People will come if they can, or if they want too.
I don't mind doing that, but I am rather unfamiliar with the roads deep in the Hill Country (it's a big state and I have not been down there yet). If someone from down that way can put some suggestions out, that would be appreciated.
Being a great supporter of the democratic process, I find that is doesn't work so well on a small scale, like orgainizing a ride. I agree with HS; pick a place and a date. It will work for some and not for others but we plan to have another one sometime in the future then everyone will get a chance to go eventually.
Brady, Texas is considered the geographic center of the state. But I think the best roads are south of there. ScootR lives in Borne/Comfort area and the roads are great around there. My time is somewhat limited these days as I am preparing for OBC in July but I would be interested in attending and perhaps helping organize the met.

Kerrville Fredericksburg Bandera
Kerrville is on a major interstate and has the best hotel choices. Fredericksburg has touristy/B&B type accomodations and attractions. Bandera is the best location but is much smaller with less of everything than the other two.
Generally speaking, the west section of the hill country has the best roads with the least amount of traffic. The triple 3's (335,336,&,337) are always top ten rated in the state.
I would be there if it does not have any conflicting dates already planned.Going to Barber next month,for the ama races,but I think it's the only thing on the schedule at the moment.I have been to Comfort,Tx for the mountain bike races and I think it's right down the road from Kerrville.

Hey guys we need to keep thinking about this one.Maybe Kerrville in July or in September.I don't know if any of you are going to the national meet,but maybe we could do ours around the same time.
Since there are national VFR meets in June and Sept, July is kind of middle ground. Although I normally avoid rides during the peak of our Texas summer, I'll make an exception for you guys! :D
I'll throw out the date of July 10th, the weekend after the 4th.

How about Kerrville? I think that is fairly central to the riding but still provide enough places for people to stay/eat. Anyone know of some good eats there where the group can meet up?

Yeah, Kerrville is a real good central type location.
Here's an idea for the mid-day heat. Stop some place where we can soak in one of the rivers. They are COLD, even in the peak of summer. They don't call it the Frio River for nothin'. :P
Hopefully my new Sargent seat will be in by the time this ride rollls around, it's been 4 weeks already but he warned me having to wait for the factory was sloooooow.

Wow ! Took FM 337 past Los Maples to Leakey, what a road. Had to take it kind of easy since first ride but you talk about some twisties, posted 10 mph stuff and what a view :bow: If we get together this July, we should head out there. I saw a Mexican cafe to eat at plus there's always Bandera on the way. Didn't take 336 but need to check it out too. Bring your sleeping bags and we'll camp out in the hills, drink beer, and tell each other lies about our riding skills :wheel:
Nope, want to check out 336 too. Only saw a DPS on 16 on the way out, thought for sure he had me but I guess not. I was low on gas by the time I got there and saw no stations so headed back to Medina, are there any gas stations in the Leakey area ? 337 past Leakey is also nice ? How's 336 headed north ?
335, 336, and 337 are all great roads. Sometimes you find a little gravel in the corners but otherwise always lots of fun. There is reliable (as in always open) gas Leakey and Camp Wood. Utopia and Bandera.
55 from Camp Wood to Rocksprings is also very popular. It is a very fast 2 lane (both directions) road. But it is heavily patroled. Weekdays are your best bet. Saturdays in the Spring and summer are usually crowded with motorcyclists.

Sweet, thats only 1600 miles of burning southwest outside of Leakey! If we meet up in Leakey, I figgure if we do an average speed of 100 mph not accounting for any stops for gas or bathroom breaks or state troopers we can make it out of Texas in about 5 hours. Thats a 1/3 of the way there! :doh:
Yep, I think my "business" trip to L Seca has been moved and will be stuck in Texas that weekend :shake: But don't worry, Lewis can still try and make fun of me behind my back. All of us Texans will be together and we'll be sure to discuss you Cali boys :beer:
