Problem rough running overheating

....Ok where to start.... i purchased a 1984 vf500 interceptor for my frist bike its a little rough but it ran well and the guy i bought it from had all the manteince recordsnso i bought it so i could finaly start riding with my buddy....bike runs great unti my friend dumps it in the grass trying to hide my bike behind his house... breaks clutch handle off when he dumps it and upon futher inspection the outer clucth basket... no problem i order the parts get themanual put it all back togher.. problem is my bike sounds different like its down a cylinder ive changed all the plugs all cylinders have spark.... could it have effed up the ign pickupcoil when the dog ear broke off the outer basket

Howdy Surefire! Just wanted to say welcome to VFRD! Can't really offer any help, but there's some pretty sharp cookies here and I'm guessing someone will have a few ideas on what to look for. Hope you get her fixed and get back action.

The 1st Gen VF's have bad top-end issues.

Provided that all the connections are sound and you have Fuel and Spark....when he knocked it over he may have had it running with it on it's side. Maybe it ran with no oil in the top-end and somethings broke?

Can you do a Compression test?

I can do a compression test... It probably did run without poil i have no idea how long it ran on its side all i know as i came back on the dirtbike to see him with my bike on the side of the house and him holding the clutch handle

did compression test all numbers turned out within spec.... double checked all coils and connections and pluse generators... took it out for a ride it didnt overheat and it ran well it seems to be missing some of its snapiness(is that even a word) but still runs as fast as it always has....when changing the plugs i noticed that one plug was running at about the right cpolor but the others were kinda white... What the correct jetting for the cobra f1(thats who I beleive make the exhaust)

Sounds like carb float may be stuck.
