Went for a few rides the past couple days and my bike has developed this clunking noise when going through the RPMS in EVERY gear. Ill start from a stop, hear it around 3000 RPM, then 4500 RPM, then 6000 RPM, in first second third and probably the higher gears but the wind/exhaust noise makes it hard to tell. Whenever it clunks, I can feel it in my left peg. Anyone have any ideas on what it may be? 86 VFR700F

check your chain.. make sure there aren't any binds, and that there isn't any excessive slack.

Yep that was the first thing I checked. The usual 2 fingers from center in regards to slack, prolly could use a new chain outside links have surface rust but internally its fine. This chain sat for a year unturned but once I lubed it up and rode it a few times everything was fine. Any other possibilities?

Yep that was the first thing I checked. The usual 2 fingers from center in regards to slack, prolly could use a new chain outside links have surface rust but internally its fine. This chain sat for a year unturned but once I lubed it up and rode it a few times everything was fine. Any other possibilities?
you SURE there aren't any binds in the chain? Have you inspected the sprockets? Cush drive? That bike is almost 25yr old now... what's the history on it?

Rear sprocket brand new 3000 miles ago, cush drive inspected 2000 miles ago and was in great condition, front sprocket checked, no abnormal wear or anything. I heard from another forum that rear wheel bearings may be in order, im gonna pull the wheel and check that. While I have the rear tire off ill chekc the chain better and make sure theres nothing holding it up. New clutch 4000 miles ago. 52k on bike now I got it with 48k. Don't know too much about the history other than the past 4000 miles and I've just been replacing things as I go. Ill post once I check chain more in-depth and inspect bearings. Anything other than these 2 things that could be wrong? A chain or bearing just doesn't seem to be causing this issue as the knocks occur at the same RPMs every acceleration... Transmission?
