I have an 86vfr700 california model...actually its been relieved of all that smog emissions crap. I haven't truely gotten a mileage count on it as I wassn't sure that my fuel light actually worked.. It worked when I would turn on the ignition. but I had never seen it come on while I was riding. well it finally came on and I now know that I get 150 miles until the "oh shit its time to get some fuel" light comes on. curiousa as to what any others are getting until their light comes on.....BTW I filled it up right then as I was just in front of a gas station and it took 4.55 gallons...
I got usually 160 to 190 miles before the fule light got on, and usually it was same moment I had to switch to reserv tank. So adding fule was ~15,5 liters.
Best ever riding slow cruising and I got litle more that 260 miles from a tank, then it was dry thro, filled up 19,7 liter in it.

Can we clarify units? We're talking miles of distance and litres of fuel?
My bike gets about 30-35mpg with a mix of riding. I tend to fuel up smaller amounts and more often so I don't have a good precise measure yet. I'm at about 220km on the current tank so I'll check it when I fuel up again.

^^^ I hear this is generally poor fuel economy for a 2nd Gen.
I just did the math and mine is getting 33 MPG.. me thinks a carb sync and tune up are in order than... but like I said very few of theses miles were high way miles mostly in town stop and go bull.....

The 260 miles on a tank was riding in 45-70 (miles/h) speed range, but no trashing, did it whit a open aftermarket pipe, a Micron whit stock jetting. Whit stock exhaust I never got this good fuel economy, about 200 miles what usual.

She is backfiring lightly when I close the throttle though... burbling really... but I'd say a new air filter is a minimum. I even added a few more rings to the supertrapp to help it breath a little better. I think a carb sync is also on order.
