There would be nothing funnier than doing a track day and overtaking sportsbike guys on the outside - hardbags and all!

Great pic mate .... btw, from the look of the pic your 'straight back' style reminds me a little of the old 500cc racer Nori Abe (may he RIP) - remember him?

During tech the instructor encouraged me to remove the bags. I had the bags on the first "sighting" laps out, it's what the school calls the slow ride. Pretty much just follow the leader and do a leap frog type thing but the instructor always stays in the lead. When we came in from the slow ride, another instructor came by and suggested that I remove the bags. So for the first couple open sessions I ran without the bags. I found myself pushing faster than I had intended so I wasn't concentrating on the instructions that we were given. At that point I put the bags back on to slow myself down. I did touch the left side bag down at one point, so I then slowed it down another notch. Jason Pridmore was out observing the on-track activities during the session that I touched down the bag. He came back into the pits and found me and asked "so did it happen?" I showed him the scraps and he commented that the VFR is one of the best street bikes, and that he spent alot of time on them when he was working with his dad's school. He said it is always cool to see a sport touring bike being ridden this way.
So out of the 85 pictures I have, about 2/3 of them are with the bags.
As for the bike prep, I was pretty happy. They only required the headlights and tail/brake lights be unplugged. If you look closely you can see my running lights are still illuminated. They said I could just fold my mirrors back, but I was concerned that they might interfere with my hands at full lock (parking lot only obviously). Plus I had brought the bolts & washers that I used during my last track day, so I just removed them.
I passed several sportbikes out the outside of turn 5, a long 180-degree, 80 mph corner. It has always been my favorite corner. All the other corners are too tight, in my opinion, to pass in. I see no reason to spook another rider when I don't gain anything from it. It wasn't a race, so I pretty much left my passing to be done on the straights, or often times tucked under the other rider on the exit of the corner. I'm trying to weed through all the photos and I'll be adding them to my gallery.

Great pic. The Pridmore school is the best money I have ever spent on improving my riding. For those of you that haven't done it, save up your nickels and go do it when they are near you. You will not regret it. Don't get the wrong impression that this is a "track school". No matter what you ride or where you ride it, you will learn things in this class that will greatly improve your skills. Jason and crew have that rare combination of world-class riding skills and the ability to transmit their knowledge to you.
I have no affiliation with the school other than being a very satisfied customer after spending two days with them here in Colorado last year.

Here he wasn't using the bags as sliders but as floaters.
Now that I think about it, Pridmore didn't mention how to ford a body of water. I guess the class wasn't as good as I first thought.

You are in love with those bikes, aren't you. And yes, that was a Sprint that I used as a rolling chicane. I was really hoping to dice it up with him a little, but he wasn't too comfortable. The only guy that I really had fun with was the black R1, he would pull me on the straights, and I'd catch him at the exit of the corners. But that was when I was pushing hard, and not concentrating on the instruction, so I let him go and put the bags on.
