Previous Owner said it wouldn't idle well....

Here's what I found in the airbox of my newly-acquired '86 VF700. It ran fine till this last winter, owner said. Always started right up, until he left fuel in the system over the winter. Now it won't idle off of choke.

It smells....so bad.

I've had a few "very gross" moments of motorcycling, this one is right up there.

That's half, I said half, of a dead baby squirrel in that nest. With lots and lots and lots of acorns!


On the plus side, the carbs are out and so far they don't look too gunked up, and tank is drained with no very much rust at all in there.

methanol at least has some properties if it's treated correctly but not that way HA HAA

I've loved those types of finds...
sad that they may be for lack of respect to ANY vehicle

you should put a hamster wheel in there to operate a blower.

Cover the intake inlets with screen, problem solved for future.

I don't know anything at all about working on this bike....I didn't get much past removing the carbs, it seriously needs to air out under there before I want to go near it!

BTW the seat for the float valve is removeable I think...it takes a 10mm hex...right? I don't want to yank it out if it's not supposed to be removed...the rest of the carbs are apart and ready for cleaning. All idle jets blocked, and a coating of funk and dirt crystals on everything else.
