I hate the Sargent seat on my VFR

I recently picked up an 03 VFR and I gotta admit I still like my 2k gen 5 VFR better (glad I have not sold it yet - got a lil over 40k on the bike). The 03 VFR came with a Sargent seat on it and I hate the stupid seat. Yes the Sargent seat is comfortable, but it is ugly to me and causes me great problems with proper body position when doing some aggressive riding through some twisties (it is a pain when I am not riding aggressive also). I mean I really hate the Sargent seat, even though it is well made and is comfortable, but I have no problems or complaints with the stock seat. The Sargent seat on my 03 VFR is damn near new and I am willing to sell it so I can get a stock seat which works fine for me. Curious if there are any other custom seat recommendations that anyone here has. I would really like to get rid of the banana seat and get a split two seat setup for my gen 6 VFR, Sorry but I really hate the Sargent seat and think it is just ugly.

But what do you think about Sargent seats? :laughing6-hehe:


I've had both on a 6gen and preferred the Corbin in terms of comfort and moving around on (leather) but preferred the Sargents' looks.

i've got one as well and love it. i love the way the sharp lines of the seat match the bike, but i guess its not for everybody.
i'm positive that you could find somebody on here that would be willing to trade you seats and would even throw in a few bucks.

I am not sure what you are asking for but I would be glad to send you the stock seat from my 05 if you would like it.

Thanks for understanding. I think the Sargent is well made and is of good quality, but it does not work for me and I do not find it attractive on my VFR (strictly an opinion). The seat is a real problem for me as it takes away my enjoyment of running through some twisties and catching some knee. I know the 03 VFR is not a supersport, but damn (glad I also have an 03 R1). Checking if there are any alternative seat upgrades that will not be so bulky and is not a banana seat (really want to get rid of the banana seat on the VFR). BTW thanks for the suggestion on the email - gotta get that done.

Id be willing to give you $50 and my modified stock seat. it was proferssionally redone by www.greatdaytoride.com

Reshaped the foam and added a gel type insert for additional comfort.

What do you want out of the seat? You say it's comfortable and well made, but you don't specify what you don't like about it, other than the looks.

I've tried a corbin on a 5th gen, and found the shape to be terrible and uncomfortable. Perhaps you can get the shape reformed a bit if that's the issue.

Hey man I have no issue with the seat materials and it is well made and is comfortable (no reason for me to be wreckless with my opinion and statements because I do not like it), a cushioned park bench is comfortable and can be well made also, and that will not work for me either lol. As I stated in my initial post I am looking to either get a new stock seat or check for any alternative that is not a bannana seat. The problem I have with the Sargent seat is that I do not find it attractive at all and it is a problem for me and my riding style. I have also mentioned I know it is not a supersport (I have an R1 also), but damn. The Sargent seat gotta go that is how I feel about it and that is for me - kudos to whoever likes it and thinks it is attractive. I would rather ride my bike with no seat than with the Sargent seat.

...right. So what kind of seat are you looking for aside from stock?

If you sell your Sargent seat to Wrestler for a good price, I'll send you a stock seat for cost of shipping. (or you can drive 2.5 hrs up to my place & pick it up...)

As far as I know, no one makes anything but a banana seat for the 6th gen. Do you have the solo cowl for your bike? At least then it will look like a solo/two piece seat.

I dont consider myself stupid, I'm still on the stock seat at 80,000 mile, it sucks but I've done some modification to atleast make it functional.

The sargent is lower , thats only going to cause more leg cramp, the corbin, I dont think you can get up and hang near the tank, plus I like a taller seat. Its suks, but what can you do, limited options.

I found my Sargent to be taller/ slightly wider than stock? :huh:

Seb, just for clarification. every one Ive heard say its about the same to slighty lower on seat to peg distance. If its wider that could give the feeling of being taller in reference to touching the ground.

But I'm strictly interested in a lengthend seat to Peg relation. If somebody can confirm that , might raise an eyebrow. But I'm thinking I'd have to have the argent an inch taller. The 15 pound corbin,I luv the look , but damn thats alot of weight

Paint it flat black. One of the things that is cool about having a flat black bike is that the ugly shape of the seat is absorbed by all the black. Your eyes are not drawn to the contrast and it just flows.

Well I have spoken to the dealership where I got the 03 VTEC VFR and have arranged top return the bike this Sat. I am totally disappointed in the bike - there are issues with the bike I do not want to deal with and so far I do not like the VTEC engine at all (the sargent seat is not good for me and the bike is just slow and too much work to go fast). Glad I did not sell my 5th Gen VFR with the stock seat.

Glad to hear that the dealer would work with you.... Looking at your list of bikes, would tell me you're into the lighter sport bikes......

Wassup Monk - My preference is a Sport Tourer. I am a crusier convert to sportbikes. Guess I am not a full on custom seat user. My preference would be the stock seat with a gel pad. A major advantage of buying a used bike from a person rather than a dealer is most people will give you the old stock parts and other stuff for the bike. Dealers will give you nothing.

I rode back to Andover NJ yesterday and bought the 03 VFR back. I have a really great relationship with the dealership and no problem with the return. They have some nice bikes and two White 06 VFRs and a Black VFR - all too pricey for me. One of the 06 White VFRs has a reshaped Sargent seat and it would be all wrong for me. Sitting on that bike had me humpin the tank lol. Anyway I found an 04 VFR for sale in S. Carolina and an 02 Busa in Iowa I like. Oh yeah both bikes have stock seats lol. Of course my first choice is the VFR.

Okay, so I'm confused. You bought a 6th-gen, started a thread about how much the Sargent seat sucked, had several people offer to trade you for the Sargent, then returned the whole bike to the dealer... and now you are looking at another 6th-gen? Or are you just listing all the VFRs as "coulda-beens" in place of the 2003 you just returned?

I know you know the seats are interchangeable without having to get a new bike - so what else was wrong with the 2003? VTEC seemed to be one of your beefs, but you better believe the 2004 in SC has it, too. :mellow:

I bought my 05 with a Sargent on it, but was given the stocker along with the deal. I rode both for a couple hundred miles and decided I liked the shape of the stocker better.

Coming from a guy with an R1 I could see where the VFR might seem slow, but so does just about everything else.

Hey I have and ride a Gen 5 VFR. I have an R1 and ride that also and I also have two other bikes I ride. The 6th Gen VFR I had was slower than the 5th Gen VFR - that is what I am comparing it to.

I picked up an 03 VFR and the Sargent sent was one ofthe issues I had with the bike (not a big deal). Initially I was only looking for seat options, but after a week with the bike I decided to return the bike because I think it has an engine or clutch/tranny issue. I got my money back and I am still looking get a 6th Gen VFR, I have found two VFRs and a Busa that I am looking to buy. I will not buy another VFR with a Sargent seat unless I get the stock seat with the purchase. How is that confusing?
