crash sliders

On my other bikes they're called case guards, engine guards, crash guards...and they've all done their jobs.

I don't remember what you call them on a sport bike, the delrin things that stick out and keep the fairing from crunching up if the bike goes down.

Are there any made for the 86-87 700/750?

And....I scored a front fairing on Ebay, it's aftermarket in very good shape. It's made by Cobalt Racing. Do they make fairing parts anymore? Is this a good one? It has zero repairs or cracks and feels more solid than the stock piece....I'd like to put some kind of guards on the bike so this new piece doesn't get trashed if I drop the bike.

Generally they are called frame sliders on sport bikes.

as fate would have it, ive been looking into this exact question in the past week, and what ive found is that there are folks who have used frame sliders that are made to fit the RC51, and mounting them on the front engine mounts on the 86-87 vfr's. i have a set on the way to me as we speak, and ill let you know how well they work out as far as fit and look go.

I've done a mirror conversion on my VFR (not a scooter mirror though - sacrilege :biggrin: ) - details and pic below

List of materials:
* A pair of CBF1000 mirrors, model year 2006. Parts Nr. 88120-MER-R00 (left mirror).
* A pair of spacers to replace the original
* 2 8mm hex bolts.
* 2 large discs (30 mm) for covering the fairing mounting hole.
* 2 smaller discs for the nuts.
* 2 8mm nuts. Looks best if they are the capped type.

Black bolts, discs and nuts look best.

Dimensions for the spacers:
These are 20mm in diameter with a ridge of 30 mm in diameter 8.5mm from the top.
Center hole is 8mm for the bolt.
Total length of the spacers are 30.8mm.
I used steel for the spacers, but aluminium or hard plastic could be used as well.

Mounting:
First you need to remove the CBF mirror bases - as these are not used.
Then it is a simple matter of fitting the large disk on top of the fairing rubber bushing, then
the mirror stem with the original small discs is mounted using the 8mm hex bolt.
Finally a bottom spacer and the capped nuts are used to secure it all.
You can actually swivel the mirrors for going through narrow entrances etc.

Finally:
Quite possibly other mirrors can fit as well - what you need to look for is the angle that the
stem makes with the base - this must give a suitable angle once mounted level on the VFR - still
allowing a sensible adjustment range for the mirror.

Good to know. I have been looking into the same thing for my VF500F, the pix of the RC51 sliders look like they will work. Keep us posted on this.

Thanks for the write-up on the mirrors. Looks like I could do something like that, provided I can source or fab up something. Maybe not as good-looking, though....

Can't replicate the Ebay search at any rate...

ThumpStar? some kinda dirt bike, can't imagine why there are mirrors for it.

Still, modding up modern mirrors with a spacer (that look really good too) is a definite possibility.

My mirrors are OK, it's the plastic stem covers that are all cracked up...along with every other piece of plastic on the bike.
