My VFR 1200 had shown 2 temperature bars since new,however after 1200 miles it jumped to 3 both in town and on the slab. The heat is not objectionable, but it seems odd it would suddenly start doing this.
The levels in both the radiator and plastic overflow are fine,but this is baffling!
Does 3 bars seem to be the norm for most,or is 2 what most folks are at?

Mine is usually 3 but also 2 bars quite often. Nothing wrong with 3, heck even 4 is OK, as long as you stay out of the red.
When I bought mine in April it fluctuated between 2 and 3....throughout the summer heat it typically stayed at a constant 3 bars. Now that the weather has cooled here, I am back to fluctuating between 2 and 3. 2 typically on the open road or extended ride and 3 in traffic.
Usually I see 3 bars during a hot day. I get 2 bars in the morning and in the evening when the weather is cooler. I also get 3 bars when I've been hustling the bike during spirited mountain rides. Seems normal to me.

3 bars in standard in Nigeria, where ambient temperature is 25C (when cold) and up to 42C (when hot). I did see 2 bars (for close to 3 hours) once during a trip in the rain.
Added some Water Wetter just for grins, but with no change. The best way to probably have done it was
to drain the system, ridding the tank of the coolant being that it's not the best cooling medium and just go
with WW and distilled, being that freezing temps are not really an issue here for me anyway at least not now!
Im kinda just experimenting right now anyway! Alright lets keep this thread going so.............

Hey me too! I was originally just going to run it until i had a problem as I had a spare engine sitting in my shop. I was thinking I'd go 32k, then 40k then 50k then Frick it! Run it till it blows and it just won't! :cool:
Even when it was cooler last week with temps in the upper 60�s & lower 70�s, there was 3 bars and my fan is still on a lot when I am in heavy traffic which can't be avoided here in the San Fernando Valley unless I was to ride in the middle of the night.
I have gotten used to hearing my cooling fan cycle on & off and if I did not hear it now, I would think something was wrong.
