this morning i went to start my bike and when i turned the key everything seemed to be ok a few seconds later total loss of power...i was checking fuses and saw that what i believe to be the starter relay seemed to be a little more melted than usual...would this cause the above problem...if not, any ideas as to what i could check that might.
I assume there are some differences between your 07 and my 4G, but based on your description and the pics, it looks like that is the connector that splits power out from the R/R to the battery, starter, etc.
That looks to be a little more melting than normal, there are some who might say *any* melting is not normal (!!). Anyway the fact that the plug was melting means there is trouble in the wiring somewhere. I would trace the wire back and forth to see if you see anything else.
Just guessing but the fact that you lost all power quickly could mean the starter relay went south, which would result in the connection from your battery to the vitals (starter, fuses etc) was cut. Its possible the starter relay went bad on its own, but more likely its related to that wire that got so hot it started melting the connector. All that could be related to a bad R/R. If you pull that off, you might see similar heat damage at one of the terminals.
Where are you at in SoCal? If not too far from me I could maybe help trouble-shooting. IM if interested.
Hopefully there are others with more experience with the newer models that could provide some insight.

I am in vista ca and if you could that would be awesome. All of this occurred in about two seconds from turning bike on to loss of power. Never had any other problems.
ok so i took the starter relay off the bike and brought it to the dealer...they tested it and said it was not working...they said that it should not cause the entire bike to lose power though and that the main problem is something else. will a bad starter relay actually cause a complete loss of power to the bike as is the case with my current problem or is it more likely the dreaded r/r
anyone had any experience with a similar problem.
