A fellow member of vfrd ..KNIFE, asked me if I am really deaf...and that I must have over come a bit..and to ride motorcycles to top it off...

How to respond??

I am deaf???

Yes!!!I have a 93% hearing loss...

Am I deaf??? No!!

I am not part of the "deaf culture" ergo hang out in deaf groups and such .

Kinda like a being jewish guy eating a ham sandwich on passover .I do know sign language..but don't use it much..just about every gal I date is hearing..or doesnt speak english anyway...I am NOT going to show pix as I get into enough trouble with the moderators as it is.

I can't hear on the phone...or the radio,TV, drunks screaming at 3am.. Or the wonderfull V4 exhaust.

I do talk normal..most of the time as SEB will confirm. Sometimes I talk too loud..sometimes too soft..

I AM trying to get an IMPLANT..ergo the bionic ear..(do doo do doo do dooo doooo do do) you must be over 30 to get the 6 million $ man joke!!

If I get the implant it may take about a year to get it tuned right..that's fine.. I just wanna know if I can get sirus radio in my head!! I wanna howard sterns twisted stuff!!!

I use EMAIL, IM , and texts to communicate most of the time...and web cam when talking with a few deaf or signing pals.

My grandfathers were deaf.. Going back generations..about 8 or 900 years.. Born hearing slowly going deaf... just like me and my sister..(1st deaf girl)

I grew up around bikes and got my first street bike from a foster brother at 12.

If you lived in York PA back in 83..and saw a little kid push start a lowered flat black cafe cb750 ..that was me!!!

Motorcycles got put aside as I got into bicycles and racing them.

By the time I went to MMI in arizon I was fully deaf.. And was the ONLY person in my class to get a 100 % on noise identification!!!

Vibration location is the key! A george on the dollar bill will tell me if the valves need adjustments...mr camel blows smoke at gasket leaks. Lots of cool stuff picked up over the years..

As for the VFR...I have owned one since I was 16..often more than 1 in my stash..along with parts everywhere.

So, am I deaf?? Yes.. But I think of my self as a biker,a good cook,a silly guy, a dirty minded lover, and and and and.. SO much more before I add deaf... BUT.. In the world of motorcycles..everything reminds me of what's missing ( aside from dirty wispers from my girl)...the exhaust .. The starter buzz. The gear driven whine.. The starter relay click.. And of course... just about every video on the web has no captions..(like the MD cop).

and yes.. it really is VFR deafness... my cochlear is fried.. and that converts vibrations from the eardrum into electrical impulses to my brain.. ergo its a REG/REC// so of course its shot!! :lobby:

So..if your in MD and see a flat black vfr750 that's not timmy the cops bike.. Its mine..and if you say "HI!!" make sure I am looking at you!

I hope hope everyone has a great weekend!!

The great silly one,Greg

Deaf ,not dumb!

NUTS,not crazy!

Keep on keepin' on there Dude. :lobby:

Hopefully the implant will help you out. :musik20:

My co-worker's daughter has one, and it's made her life a lot easier. They went to do the other side later on, so she'd have stereo, but there was too much scar tissue or something so it didn't work.

Oh well, mono is better than zero.

#3

you realize.. with the implant i become a cyborg

wonder if i can get it to hook up to my phone and gps via bluetooth! :goofy:

and maybe i can get honda to pay for it if i have the honda logo on the outer parts?

So you're sayin' you can't hear your girlfriend nag? On the other hand, you can't hear her scream while in the throes of passion either, but then that's why God made fingernails. Seems that for every negative in life, there is a corresponding positive. Seems like you dwell only on the positives. Very cool! Very cool indeed!

And regarding your Jewish reference, remember the ultimate Jewish dilemma... free ham!

Hey Greg!

Thanks for the explanations and details. Makes more sense now with some of the comments you make. In any case, you are a positive guy, evidently, and I hope that the implant works out for you--but careful what you wish for... something about the nagging... Cheers man!

well now.. i have gotten a few PMs asking about george and mr camell..

simply put.. smoke from a cigaret will be blown by a blown gasket and holes in the exhaust pipes and such ....

the 1 dollar bill trick for valves.....

this works best on stright pipes.. but can work on 2 into 1 pipes.. almost never for a 4 into 1

the trick... hold a dollar and the end of the exhaust pipe.. it will flutter.. however.. if the exhaust valve is not closing.. george gets sucked back ...then shot out again. if he does this a few times you know somethings wrong

i had guessed that.

but on the flip side.. blah! one more thing to lose!!! my pal lost his remote for the TV..and you cant do anything with out it!!!! i hate that kinda crap..

as for the implant.. i want to beable to turn it up or down with my finger as on a hearing aid. the last thing i need is to have it raining and need to dig out a remote control from a my jacket pocket to stop BBBBZZZZ feedback in my brain! remotecontols are good for the buzzer in your girls panties... other wise .. get off your butt and change the channel! :fing02:

ok.. back to real life now..

i have to talk with the docs and the insurence people .. this set up costs $120,000 :fing02:

i want to beable to turn it up or down with my finger as on a hearing aid.

You can. All the basic controls can be done from the earpiece. Remote has more functionality.

gll429

.. this set up costs $120,000 blink.gif is it really worth it?

That's about right. Guess it depends on what you're wanting out of an implant. I'm told, "Yes". Of course, like anything, in two years it will be outdated and significantly cheaper.

i started with a ninja 250, it was slow, yes, but it taught me alot, and was very easy to handle. after that was a 98 750 katana, then a 954, then my current rider, an 03 r6. i havnt been able to ride my vfr yet :( (although i did get to ride the ex's bike around the yard until it stopped running)

I'm totally deaf in one ear. Caused a bunch of greif growing up. I applaud the fact you haven't let it become a handicap. Socially it causes many akward situations for me which I'm sure are the same for you. I think it's very cool how you deal with it. I don't get everything you say at times or where you are coming from but I try not to take S#$% too seriously on this board anyways. I'll have to check out your pictures in your gallery sometime. Sounds like you have a lot of bikes in your garage.

you simply have to make it work for you..
i have only dated hearing women..
now.. everyone goes to the movies..( i see ones with CC)
every time a woman sees a 2 hour movie.. they ALWAYS go to the bathroom.. when they come back .they ask "what did i miss??"

i give them the best lip locker i can.. if they like it.. great..
if not.. i act SHOCKED!!" but you said give me a KISS!!!"
instant sympathy !!! which leads to more kissing :fing02:

now in another situation.. like yesterday. i went to a "club party" lots of hells angles... more than i expected..i was thinking was going to a much more of a mixxed party..with sport bikes and such.. oh well

one HUGE guy walks up.. "WHAT ARE STARING AT MY GIRL FOR????"

my reply.. "staring at your girder fork?? i thought you have a springer.. it looks damn cool in black, chrome is over rated"

by that time the woman, who invited me, stuffed a hotdog in the guys face and was wisking me to the pool tables.

if you have a cig.. dont inhale it.. blow out through it.. lots of smoke will come out.. and you will the smoke move away from where ever there is a high pressure exhaust or head /base gasket leak .
and thats most of the time there is a leak :fing02:

i am to play the deaf biker guy who sweet talks up 2 deaf hotties.. and the rest will get me banned here!.

turns out lots of deaf people really do want everything fordeafies! movies, cops lawyers.. a whole freeking town .. some guy is trying to start a town in south dakota :squid:

i told him he was freaking nuts.. there are lots of towns in america that are abandoned.. in warmer states./... but NOOOOOO he wants deaf built.. deaf this deaf that..

the goober is kinda clueless IMHO.. as most deaf people dont have jobs that will pay for the cost of a new town.. :fing02:

Are you sure you put them on right after you finished "examining" the pics?

My dad took sign language to be an interpreter for his church some years back and I learned that it really is another language. The way I see it, deaf people are no more handicapped than the rest of us. In fact, they may even have an advantage as they don't have to listen to the constant whining that most people like to do on a daily basis. Reminds me of the movie "The Replacements". The bar scene where the main antagonist was heckling the tight end who was deaf. The tight end responded by writing...

"One nice thing about being deaf is....it is easy to ignore the a**holes."

How is the hearing loss measured so you know yours is 93%? Just wondering...

you go to an Audiologist.

they will stick you in a sound proof booth and stick some headphones on you..

then go through a range of sounds.. hi pitch to low pitch starting out extremely faint..and then cranking up the volume until you can hear it.

most people can hear a pin drop onto a plate.. i am lucky if i can hear a harley with straight pipes

..or is that lucky enough NOT to hear them??

How is the hearing loss measured so you know yours is 93%? Just wondering...

measured in decibles by audiolgist. its never percentage because it always changes and changes and changes like progressive hearing losses like mine! but now im a borg

your almost right..

i have lost the ability to hear 93 % of the "NORMAL" hearing range.. i can still hear some high pitch and very low pitch.. i heard i ambulance today.. but it was so loud to me it hurt my hears!!! i was 5 feet away when it was flipped on.. :fing02:

a drag bike of any make also is loud enough to hear.. and also HUUURRRTTTSSS!!..

it makes my ears ring!!!

i never hear the rumble or growl.. i just hear NOISE.. a jumble of crap that belongs to a sub being crushed at the bottom of the ocean.

on the flip side if my ear starts to ring while i have a hottie in my bed.. i know i can take a break and go get cold drink :idea3:

your call to me the other night confirms 'WTF who's calling me... call back made me LOL"

probably should announce (via PM) that you're going to call before I discount whom it is and hang up!!!!!!!!!

Thinking it's a case of an accidental/mistaken call

Hey Greg, hadn't seen this thread, I guess the last few posts brought it back.

I'm not deaf, just afraid my son will lose his hearing. I can hear his earphones across the room!. Myself I've always tried to protect my hearing, did get these clunky walkmans when they first came out (used it as I rode my Vespa!).

Anyways not about him, but just nothing in specific, have you seen the movie "it's all gone pete tong"It's about a DJ who loses his hearing. (No more spoilers in case you haven't), I really recommend it, the setup is in Ibiza club culture.

So that's what this post is about, your question "are the songs worth it?" Yes they are. Absolutely. Dunno maybe I just have a sound fetish (and a visual fetish too). But I could not live without my music. Especially recent

[video: https://www.youtube.com/embed/tUrwRcw64ys?feature=oembed] These melt any stress, elevate me from this mortal existence and I am connected 16 ways across the universe. Zero drugs!.

Then you discover Brainwave technology... oh wow. (reciprocal waves across Left to Right that your brain fills the blanks for and ends up following its uplifting wave). or, as they explain it;

In an EEG "At any given moment, (in the brain) many frequencies can be detected, but there's always a predominant frequency. Scientists have found a link between the different brainwave frequencies and the different mind states. The dominant brainwave frequency determines our state of mind in each moment."

It works!.

Don't have to buy them tho. Available all over the net.

My appreciation of sound and music comes from growing up in a household full of musicians. My uncle directed the local philharmonic band, and taught in university. So I'd hear his sax and oboe solos every afternoon. Myself I can only play twinkle star in the piano, that's about it!.

Anyways Yes. I'd spend it if I had it... to be able to hear. Not just Mozart, or Sesto Sento and The Police and brainwaves. But to give my brain aural orgasms like we do with food, pictures, movies, etc etc.

Find that movie if you haven't seen it!.

Congratulations Crystal! OK I need to know what diameter the forks are, I have a cool pair of small-fork alloy clip-ons that I'm happy to donate to the cause if they'll fit :)

No idea what they are off but they are nice little units!

Well yes V4 sound hello!., but anyways, have you had your brain rewiring yet?

"Improved peripheral vision, often reported by deaf people, could be generated by the brain area which would normally deal with peripheral hearing".
