english build 86 750 endurance/gp style thingy

hi, new to this forum and looking for inspiration, ive been building this bike since mid november, it started its life with me in a bit of a state,

i paid �250 and had to travel 340miles to get her but that only cost me �40 in diesel. its got its fair share of bodges and it didn't come with everything it needed for it to go straight on the road, so over the next couple of weeks i got her looking a bit better and sorted out all the little things that had either been bodged or not done at all.

so anyway fast foward a couple months and were into november, roads are crappy and its getting dark early, perfect time to take her off the road and start making some changes, wife bought me a 5.5" x 17" cbr1000 wheel and crap tyre, igot a set of cbr1000 front fairings for �50 and a cbr front light for a couple of quid,

they are just test fitted at the moment, ive other things that i wanted to do first.

i wanted a moto gp style exhaust system, one pipe exiting under my right foot and one under the tail unit, so i had to get the old rusty (stainless my arse!) exhaust pipes off and found that the rear ones are a mare, i snapped every stud so then i had to get the engine out to be able to remove the snapped studs in the rear cylinder head, which was fine till i snapped the right side front engine mount bolt, no problems i thout, i'll drill it and smash a torx bit in there, so thats what i did, pulled on the breaker bar and snap! so then i had a snapped torx bit (made of case hardened steel or something) inside a snapped bolt. so anyway i got the engine out and took it to my workshop and spent the best part of a morning trying to get the damn thing out, smashed the mount trying but eventually it came out, had to get a friend to weld the mount up and then installed the engine back in the frame and drilled and tapped the mount.

that was that problem sorted, next problem was the exhaust, im using an old stainless system off something that was straight 4, not sure what but i dont suppose my tig welder or grinder care, front 2 cylinders went well, ran them down the block then under each side of the engine and the left one comes across the back of the engine and meets the right one just forward of the right foot rest, then i'll have a small length of pipe out and up behind my heel and then the moto gp style can . the rear ones are a different story, they are tighter than a nuns chuff! i have no idea how i'm going to get the pipe under my arse, i might have to go under then back up by the left foot rest but we'll see.

waiting on digi dash to turn up and a seat unit to copy then i can get on with making the carbon fibre body work for it, the colour scheme is going to be quite simple, im going bare carbon without lacquer then plain grey/black decals and then i'll lacquer the whole lot, i want it to look like a pre season test bike but with endurance lights. the reason ive used a vfr and not bought a cbr 1000 is because i wanted something that would sound right, not every one over here appreciates how good these bikes really are and i didn't want something that my next door neighbor could buy exactly the same, its the same for everything else i have in my projects, one of which is a cagiva mito with a ktm 625cc single, the other is a mk6 escort (english one started life with a 1.6l in line four) with a silly paint silly wheels silly sound system and a 3.0l v6 that im looking to supercharge.

i have to take some more pictures later so when i get that done i'll post up some more pics here.

things to buy are usd front end, something like a cbr, would be nice to have a wheel with it too. light weight battery (might follow the li fe route as it works out so much cheaper) rear light, r6 projector front light (for cbr conversion) new/uprated rear shock and anything else i cant think of at the moment.

any suggestions as to what would work would be appreciated, im not new to modding or biking, and im not scared to get my hands dirty trying something i havent done before.

Nice to see some builds showing up. It's a long winter here in New England so we need all the bike porn we can get. Sounds like a cool project. Keep it coming. :lurk:

You have been having a terrible year already for cold and snow so get some work done and I will make sure my english slang app is up to date on my phone so I can understand what you say you have done. :biggrin:

did it got the exhausts to work, wasnt what i was looking at doing but it works and its not too awfull have a look tell me what you think.

Looks like you're in for some sweaty feet! Are you planning on adding any heat shielding?

no i dont plan on going slow enough to feel the heat! also its always cold here so that should help!, seriously though, yes i was looking at something to shield me from the pipes, needs some heat wrap i think, have just been informed that someone i know does titanium systems so might be going that route next then possibly having it ceramic coated on the inside which should reduce the heat that gets out through the metal. it all depends on cost.

Just sayin', but aren't all those plastic tie wraps going to make a right mess when things actually heat up down there? :biggrin:
