I have question regarding the HISS light in the upper middle of the tacho, mine does the normal stuff when you turn the ignition on etc....however, when I turn the ignition off the manual says it should flash every two seconds for 24 hours, mine does not do this......am I doing something wrong or is it normal?? I can find nothing in the manual regarding this.

It's possible to disable the normal HISS light behaviour so that it doesn't flash - I think that's the only reason for the HISS button actually.
I can't find my owners manual for my '02 but I think the process was something like hold down the HISS button for a few seconds with the ignition on and it changes behaviour so that it starts to flash again when the bike is parked.
HISS is the acronym for "Honda Ignition Security System" and it is about 10 years that Honda uses this safety system in their bikes.
The HISS light normally flash every 2 seconds for 24 hours when the ignition key is OFF, but you can turn it off using the following procedure (that can be also used to turn it ON):
- Ignition key ON
- Push the left button on combination meter (or instrument cluster) for at least 2 seconds
- the HISS light flash once
- Turn ignition key OFF
Now the HISS light is OFF. Making again the same steps and the HISS light will be ON.

Thanks muchly ilprofessore, exactly what I was after. I knew there was a procedure to follow but my owners manual doesn't have it in writing, it mentions the the HISS system and the blinking every 2 secs but not how to arm or disarm it . As I understand, the US machines weren't fitted with the HISS system. I believe it's been a feature of new Honda machines for ~10 years...... at least here in Australia.

Smithy.
