i have a problem maybe someone could help me solve. this is whats up. i have a 2002 non abs and love the thing, it seems that the front left caliper is lose at the top mounting point or bolt. i see it move back and forth when i have the front brake applied at a stop as i roll the bike back and forth. it rattles and makes a knock as i hit bigger bumps or when i come to a stop and i can feel it through the bars. its really getting to me now. any help or opions will be great. its not coming from the head bearing i know this, i can see the defected part, at the top of th linking brakes at the top of the left brake caliper where the little arm branches out to be mounted to the fork. i spun it lelf and right to see it i could tighten in but nothing is working. now if there are any ways to solve this with out buying a new caliper that would be great. i live in cabo san lucas mex. and the closest dealer is in san diego. someone please help. :wacko:

So you're saying this isn't the normal caliper movement yeah? The caliper will move some, because it's used as a master cylinder for one of the rear caliper pistons. But if it's "knocking" back and forth, then you might need this:
45630-MBG-026 (Joint Set, Brake Rod) - $13
Or this:
06454-MBG-425 (Bracket, Sub assembly) - $133
Of course, you may just be able to screw the thing back together. The little arm you're talking about basically screws into the master cylinder piston.
I've never done it but it would require getting the rubber boot off to see why it's not bolted to the piston assembly.
I'm not sure I understand the problem but take a look at this schematic:
[image: Posted Image]Look at the red square. Is this where it's loose? In other words, is it loose where this piece bolts onto the fork? I kind of doubt it because I'm sure you would have known to just tighten the bolt.
Now look at the green line. Is this where it's loose? If so, piece #22 (a circlip) may have come loose (it happened to me once.) You'll need some snap-ring pliers to put it back on. The bad news is if this is where it became undone, you've probably got air in the brake lines now. You'll need to bleed the brakes and doing it on our bikes isn't as straightforward as it is on many bikes because our bikes have a linked brake system.
See what's in the yellow rectangle? It's a brake piston kit. In a worse case scenario, you may need to replace yours with a new one (and while they're only about $45, most dealerships in the U.S. don't have them in stock; in other words, you'd have to order it.)
If you don't have a service manual, on the site here go to Files > Downloads > Owners Manuals and other then jump to page 5 and download the VTEC service manual.

Interesting. The 2002 parts fiche doesn't have codes for the rubber boot or circlip, but later models do!
The circlip (22) is part 46182-MEL-D21, and the boot (6) is part 43504-MB2-006

These are snap-ring pliers. Mine has interchangeable tips. The tips you see in the picture are 90 degree tips (which is what you'll need.) Some good news is that since it's not a motorcycle-specific tool, many auto repair places should have a set. A plumber might have some, too.
[image: Posted Image]The circlip (piece #22) is what holds all that in place. You'll need these snap-ring pliers to put the clip back in place. Mine popped out of its groove because I was careless in removing the calipers so I could remove the front wheel. I got air in my brake lines but the good news is it was time to bleed the brake fluid anyway.
Although putting the circlip back in place won't alleviate the problem of having air in your brake lines, at least it'll fix the annoying problem of having the caliper move back and forth.
There is a bearing cylinder that goes in the fork the bolt goes through the piece you posted and that bearing cylinder ,or else youll have forward and rearward play , it probably fell out somewhere , look at the forks section and you should see it there

Thats what I was thinking. If for some reason it was taken off. It is basically a bushing and I believe a race fot the needle bearing in there.
I am pretty sure that is the set up.
You could probably pick up a whole assembaly on e-bay for cheap. Never heard of this failing.

Me neither. Yes, it's basically a bushing. How much wear and tear can it possibly have? Is it even a moving part?
