Wheel balance jammie

So this is my first time balancing the VFR rear wheel. Poses a new set of problems. Turns out you can use a 2" hole saw to cut a piece of wood that will fit right into the hub. then with a rod and 2 leveled surfaces get the thing pretty balanced. I use the harbor freight changer with the motorcycle adapter and self made delrin blocks. The mojo lever saves alot of time & bad words too.

I rarely balance my rear tires on the VFR, maybe 3-4 of the last 35 w/o issue. :blush:

I just stuck 6 1/4oz on my 5 spoke rear! :blink: Zero on my RC51 front Marvic :cool:
Shoulda bought the HF wheel adapter while you were getting the changer. Nice work on the DIY, but the cylindrical chunk of aluminum is cooler :biggrin:

I have felt an out of balance rear wheel after the dealers have balanced it, not as bad as the front though , if your rim is like mine, its out atleast 1/2 ounce or more by itself.

I say 1/2 ounce , but it could be 2 ounces. I dont know how much the weights weigh, I have an assortment built up over the years.

It looks like a good idea, and it might help to some extent. There'd be questions of how well centred the wood is, and the rolling friction of the rod on the wooden board, and if the board is level,Etc.
Reason is, I've got the HF balancer and the shinny metel insert and there is still a little friction, which could improve with a higher quality wheel(ball bearings).
Let use know how it works.........

Looking a little closer, it looks like you're not working with the rod rolling in the 1st place, but how easy does the wheel rotate on the rod?

Its hard to tell but the wheel turned on the wood an rolled if it needed to. The wood was very leve but man the wheel was way off balance. Maybe 2oz which is close to what I took off for the old tire. Havent ridden it yet but have changed alot of tires & do believe this is balanced as I consistently found the same heavy spot.

Might try moving the wood that's in the wheel and see if you get the same reading on the wheel.

:ohmy: I would have broke the tire down again and spun it on the wheel 180 degrees. The most I've ever put on any wheel was probably 3 oz and that was a spoke wheel. A VFR shouldn't take anywhere near 6 oz unless something is wrong with it.
