Two Day Trip Suggestions for New England

For the fist time in years I have the time to get out for some overnighters. Boston's North Shore is the launching point. I have been pouring over Google maps for ride routes and I am looking for something different this year. With buddies that live in the White Mountain and Lakes regions of NH, those rides have been will covered.

The first trip planned is out to Mt Greylock, to Bennington, VT (Hemmings Motor News), up thru the Green Mt National Forrest and back thought the small towns of NH. These are areas I have never been to.

I am looking for scenic twisties, good pavement, low traffic, interesting towns, and some history...just something slightly off beat! You know, what we all look for! Two day distances in the 600-750 mile range, i.e. no Iron Butts! I welcome any and all suggestions. I am like a kid before Christmas!!! :biggrin:

I live at the base of Mt Greylock. After this winter I would stay away from the Berkshires side of Route 116, but rather take Route 2 west. Route 2 to 100 to 8 south is good, then hook up with Route 2 again in North Adams (unless you take route 2 the entire way into the berkshires). You can stop in NA for some food (Freight Yard Pub is good), then head up Mt. Greylock on Reservoir Rd to Notch road to the top. Mt. Greylock is pretty technical, and you have to watch out for hikers and critters. It is usually open by Memorial Day.

Right next to the Freight Yard Pub is the Hoosac Tunnel museum if you are a rail fan.

That sounds like my kind of ride right there!! Probably not a single boring moment the whole way! I bet I would especially enjoy the challenge of the technical part. :fing02:

If you've not had the pleasure of Tracey Rd, I highly recomend it. Great run. The five VT gaps are great too.

Ive been making treks up there for 15 years from NYC to Worcester to see family then up to VT and NH from there.

If you only have 2 days,
Day 1 You'll have to start at dawn or earlier :sleep: I would Mass Pike it to 91N to Rt2 w or RT2 w the whole way from Boston.Tons of roads in the 3 corners area,MA/VT/NY RT 2 over the MA/NY border is awesome especially if they repave it.Ive been on it right after a repaving and its worth a few laps,head up into southern VT by sunset.
Day 2 Use the links to map a path back east as most of I my riding in NH has been in the White Mts which you've already done.

Mt Greylock is closed before Memorial Day! Good info!! That changes the "schedule" a bit!.Thanks to all for the info. I have been looking through all the links and suggestions.

Hoping we all have a fun and safe upcoming ridin' season.
