wheels

any one with a red sixth gen ever powdercoated there wheels white and if so do you have a picture. i am thinking about having mine done in white.and was lokking for picturs to help me make up my mind.

I have a 90 model third gen in red. The wheels look stunning in white. I have seen some RWB 6th gens with white wheels, again, stunning. Makes an amazing difference. Member Fotomoto has his in gold, I think, and they look awesome too. Anything is better than black in my opinion.

The RWBs do look amazing with white wheels, especially with the 8-spoke rear...

White looks good, I was leaning towards white but decided to go chrome, something about that 07 red and chrome, the 05 red would look better with white because it's a lighter shade.

Love the white! To powdercoat, do you have to strip the existing finish or do any prep-work prior? Also, is the finish as durable as the Honda factory finish? :mellow: (Apologies if this has already been posted)

the only prep i did was remove tires,brake roters,bearings and valve stems the coater sand blasted then applied the powder.

r&b powder coating in chareston,Ill. dont really know how new they are but id never heard of them till a buddy of mine told me about them.

r&b powder coating in chareston,Ill. dont really know how new they are but id never heard of them till a buddy of mine told me about them.

Thanks. If I decide to get some work done I'll get in touch with them. Not too far away and a very reasonable price for the work.

Ouch, you have some work to do. They didn't mask off the rotor mount surfaces like they should have! Did they mask off the mounting surface of the rear wheel? This is the #1 screw-up of all powder shops(not masking rotor mounts), and the #2 problem is that they sandblast that surface before powder too!

The easiest way to remove the powder is to scrape it off with a razor blade, just be careful. You should dress it with a mill cut file as well once you have the powder off.

already took care of the mouting surface for the rotors,and no they didnt mask off the mouting surface for the rear wheel.even thu i told them to do both,wich is the only complaints i have but at least they didnt sand blast the wheels

Nothing wrong with sandblasting the wheels. I have a problem with them sandblasting the rotor mounting surface! And/or the bearing seats, and/or whatever else these inexperienced clowns forget to do. Nothing like getting a set of wheels back only to find half your rotor bolt threads gone due to some $5/hr clown not taping them off and just blasting away at your wheels! Nevermind that it's a machined surface with a profile tolerance...

My son was 5 when he learned how NOT to coat a wheel! :biggrin:

There are a lot of nice wheel / fairing color combos out there, but I don't think there's any VFR that has its personality transformed more than the RWB with white wheels (either 5 or 8 spoke). It really makes it pop. Very nice. :fing02: : :fing02: : I don't get why Honda didn't think of it. I'll bet there wouldn't have been nearly as many leftover RWB's if they had.

For sure. Can't exactly leave it there either. Did you let the powder shop know that they screwed up? Even if they don't try to make u pfor it, it may at least save the next guy some pain.

I remember the white wheels on my RWB 2nd gen were a bear to clean. I finally settled on S-100 which worked pretty well, but required a little elbow grease, and, of course, it ain't cheap! Nonetheless white wheels DO look sharp! Just keep in mind they are higher maintenance than any other color.

#1 most common screw up maybe, but #1 worst screw up is powder coating the inner fork clamp surface of a set of triples and explaining 'that's how we do all of them'..... :computer-noworky:
