Saddlesore 1000 on VFR

I'm a member of the IBA (Iron Butt Assoc) and I have done several Saddlesore 1000's and a Bun Burner Gold (1500+ miles in 24 hours) on my other bikes, but tomorrow my son and I are going to do another Saddlesore 1000. It will be his first endurance ride, and it will be my first thousand mile day on my '07 VFR. My son will ride his Kawasaki Ninja 650.
We will leave Gilbert AZ around 4AM, head north to Flagstaff, then east to Albuquerque, then south to Las Cruces, west to Tucson, and back north to Gilbert. Mapping software puts the ride at 1098 miles. I estimate we'll be home between 10 and 11PM. I've done this route several times before, so I have some idea of what to expect.
We expect below freezing temps as we get closer to Flagstaff's elevation, but most of the day will be sunny and in the high 60's or low 70's.

I'll post the results of how it went when we get home, I'm looking forward to reporting on the general comfort level of the VFR on this type of ride.

Good luck and have fun. I've done a Saddlesore 2000 on my 2006 and it wasn't TOO bad. Even with a throttlemeister, my right arm and wrist were the most tired part of me the next day. My only other comfort mod is a gel filled seat from Spencer at greatdaytoride.

We finished ours in a little over 44 hours. We got home around from our ride 2am and I had a Ride For Kids event at 7am the next morning. I took a 3 hour nap and was off again! Next time I'll just donate the money and skip the ride part! LOL

Would I do the 2000 again? Only if somebody needed me to go with them and paid for my food and fuel. :biggrin:

I could never understand the torture, but then I go on multi-day regattas which can be even tougher and no one understands it either :biggrin:

Just make sure you have fun! That is what this is all about. I will be thinking about you.

You didn't ask but I'll say it anyway :happy: .... I'm not sure I totally understand the attraction to these endurance rides ... but what the heck, whatever blows your hair back is way more than cool with me ... enjoy the day.

Best wishes to you and your son. I'll be in Tucson mid April to ferry a bike back to MA. An SV650S may not be as comfy as my 5th gen. w/Sargent seat. On the way I hope to do a SS1K where it's a bit easier. i.e. West of the big river.

Have a safe ride, and good on you for helping your son get acquainted with LD riding. I would have loved to do my first cert. ride with my dad.
