Engine cuts out while riding

Yesterday on the way to work, my 06 VFRs engine cut out while about a half mile from home. I quickly pulled the clutch and restarted it, and didn't have any problems the rest of the way. However, on the way home from work, I took the backroads and it cut out on me like ten times. I was just maintaining 45mph and it died. The instrument cluster stays on, but the lights look a little dim. I also noticed that if I haven't ridden it for a day or two, it sometimes has a hard time cranking over when I hit the starter.

I'm wondering if its time for a new battery, don't this one has been in there for maybe four years. Could it be a problem with the charging system?

The bike is all stock except for a PCIII that's been in there for a few months, and a de baffled exhaust.

Anyone had a similar problem?

A good battery is needed for these things to function so I would start there, But if i ever have any Ign. cutout issues I Always bypass a Power Commander to be sure it is not the issue. :fing02:

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll try replacing the battery and see if that works. It hasn't had any problems with the PCIII installed until now, and I installed that about 800 miles ago.

However if the battery doesn't work, I dig in and bypass the PC.

Yeah my track bike CBRF4i was running fine during a Barber event and then during the 3rd or 4th session it just started dying, I unhooked the PC3 and it worked great!
Not saying that's it, but it's a possibility because it causes the normal CPU signals to run thru it.

After the battery it's the first thing I would remove from the diagnostic picture. :fing02:

Make sure there are no loose wires and bad ground?

Problem seems to have been a loose ground at the battery. Tightened it up and checked all around the bike for other loose wires. Seems like its ok now.
