exhaust / Swingarm question

Hey all, I have an 83 VF750F and have to remove exhaust / collector box to weld it
and it looks like I am going to have to take the swingarm.

My question is do I have to worry about alignment
of the swingarm left to right?

Or is it set it and forget it? My goldwing is the first but this one looks different, no jam nuts...

It's set it and forget it. There is no adjustment or sideways play to worry about.

That said, you don't need to remove the swingarm to remove the collector box. The rear header pipes clamp to the top of the collector box. You should be able to reach the clamp bolts with a long socket extension.

However some hero instead of replacing the packing with new ones jammed a bunch of split spacers and put the clamps aiming towards the back so unfortunately I must access
it from the back.
Not to mention I have a brand new heat shield to install it would make things easier

A new heat shield you say? For the rear downtubes? You'll have to partially drop the motor for that.

Son of a ... I already have half the bike apart what's a little more at this point?!
