not a zombie..yet...

well..its been 24 hours.. and i have yet to turn in to a zombie or a mutant after getting Carpal Tunnel Surgery on a rainy friday the 13th :pissed:

it went something like this..
show up at the hospital at 12.. do paper work.. asked for a sign language interpreter .. got a nurse that spoke with a very heavy accent ..if it was english at all...
the terp showed up.. made everything MUCH faster and easier.

got an IV and had to put on the butt crack gown. around 3 i was wheeled in to the operating room.. where i was zonked out.. i woke up at 345.. arm all wrapped up! tada!!!!

i was out of the hospital around 530.. the docs and nurses making sure i understood everything about care and follow up and pain meds..

i told them NO PAIN MEDS...
got it filled anyway.. i
i dont think these people have ever had CTS.. because after having my wrist and palm cut open and a ligament in my hand severed.. i am in far LESS pain then i have been!! with NO MEDS!!! :bliss:
i will let you guys know how things go along..and yes.. i am typing this as normal.. just with my hand all wrapped up.

Had mine done years ago, was done with a local, I was awake the whole time. :dry:

Doc asked if I wanted to watch, I said "No thanks". :ohmy:

Actually I would have preferred to be in another room entirely fron the surgery, or KO'd like you.

Make sure to take ALL the time required for healing and maybe a little extra before you start doing silly things like working or stressing the wrist in any way! :excl:

the doc said USE my fingers.. :fing02: keep my wrist wrapped and straight... but other than that.. live normal.
whatever that means :goofy:
i will NOT be wrenching this week.. and i am missing bike week...gggrrr.
so.. it just movies and the web and any hottie i can convince to have sympathy for me. :lobby:

nope..both hands..and my "typing" is kinda weird as i only use 2 fingers on each hand.. aka.. normal for me.. :blush:
i did get a new "phone" that will be puttng my thumbs to use tomorrow.. as it gets VFRD perfectly.. a dell streak 7.. :fing02:

oh..i forgot to add.. i WANTED to watch!!!! but the doc is the BEST.. and focus is required .. so off to lala land.

If anything can be done awake I like to watch as well... Have a good recovery.... :beer:

Was just wondering how it went... Great news then!! So, nuts as ever, right?!?!?

Friend of mine has carpal surgery with local only...... he told me that next time he will go under. you donot feel but hear everything.....

Was wrenching the likely cause of your CTS? I'm like you--I would have wanted to watch, but likely would have distracted the doc with lots of pain-in-the-ass questions. I hope you heal well and soon!

for what caused the CTS.... akido, judo, karate, signing, wrenching ,bicycle crashes roller blade falls and loving the ladies too well. :tongue:
its been 6 days.. i have had very little pain.. only when i tried to lift a bag of groceries.. a slight twinge.. and a few times when i made a letter "e" in sign..
i may get the stitches out tomorrow with the physical therapy. i will take some pix if i can :fing02:

Hey man glad that you are feeling better. I think that I am going to be due for a cut or two in the next year or so...Damn Army breaking me! Ill be up that way in June/July time frame... hope ur up and about by then

Good luck Greg !! You MAY change your mind about the meds. That's fine. Why bother with the pain if you don't HAVE to ?? Anyway.......USE that hand. Every minute it is idle it is atrophying. People will say that would take weeks....at least. True for it to set in. But obviously, ANY part of your body STARTS atrophying the minute you stop using it.
So, USE that hand. You'll be WAY better off in the long run. Of course.

BTW...............sold the Harley today. It'll be VFR only for the next several YEARS.

i couldn't find a knife... so i had to fork it off!

after wrestled down. the bandaged where cut off showing the orange antibacterial stuff aka zombie slime... as well as the stitches and ink marks .. and a black and blue mark on the wrist from the pressure cuff that kept the numbing meds in my hand during the op.

the stitches were removed and the orange stuff washed off and a simple sleeve bandage put on to help keep the remaining healing bits clean.

so.. my hand is a little stiff. from being wrapped up all week... a little sensitive at the entry spots.. i did not lose much if any movement range ... i will admit my hand feels a "weird" but that may be from being pain free and FEELING my hand.. not tingling all day.. or being numb. i am supposed to massage it a little and go though a range of motions.. but i go through them all and more when i sign. :fing02:

I'm in the use it camp, recently a guy dropped a sleever bar from a 20' ladder and it went right through my foot I wrapped duct tape around my boot (blood cleanup is costly) and walked to the safety trailer from the turbine deck (an easy half mile) then to the truck doctors office to doctors office looking for a tetanus shot and stitches. Went the next day for the shot and a script for an antibiotic and they made me lay out for two days. I took the two days to catch up on laundry and stuff and was back to work like nothing happened. When I was little I stepped on a nail and I spent weeks on crutches and laying down. I think keeping it moving helped it from getting stiff and sore :) I'll post pics if wanted but I don't want to hijack the thread. I have a dumb question though- (forgive me if it offends) What do you mean about the accent? Do you mean she signed in an accent? Sorry again, I know it's a stupid question but it piqued my interest. :offtopic:

and yes.. you can have a sign accent!!! new yuckers sign a little different from the people in a LA and hong kong deafies are VERY smooth and clear.... etc etc :fing02:

Speaking of colloquial signs...... My greeting to peeps is the two closed fingers (index,middle) held sideways and move it up...... Which I use to say HI and they tell me that's not the right sign for Hi.... And I say that's My sign for HIGH.

the sign you described.. i use for HIGH ..as in HIGH RPM..
a "hello" wave that everybody uses is for "HI"
and a "sucking a MCDS milkshake" face with sloppy letter f says HI /BUZZED as in
" so high i dont ever wanna come down... i HEAR greg chicks calling him god"

1st day back at work..
Unloaded the trucks and rolled the bikes and tool boxes from the bosses trip to bike week...
My hand is OK... no pain..except when I tried to carry a very heavy box by the handle... clearly I am no Where close to 100% yet..

As for sign and interperters.. mine was named cheryl lee.. and was GREAT! Very clear and didn't blush at my dirty or silly joke... in fact she kinda added to few of them :P

I havnt heard from tripleH... I send him a PM asking about his healing up..
Oh well.

its been a full two weeks since the surgery...
and one week since the zombie attack...
a lite week at work.. no heavy wrenching..
and doing exercises ordered by the cute physical therapist , Madeline :wub:
and the results??
i feel great!! my thumb is weak.. but will get stronger.. my handwriting improved dramatically.... annnnnd
i have a crucifix scar.. :huh:

i have tried out my new hand.. "laying hands' on a bike that would not start..and screaming BE HEALED!!!!
it fired right up!! not sure if it was me.. or the battery charger.. :lobby:

i put my hand on my coworkers head and screamed "BE GONE , NASTY BEASTIES!!" the next thing i knew he was buying me lunch and a beer...
i have got to try this thing with girl who lives up stairs... :idea3:
