What I learned during TMAC

I have learned:

Nicole has a knife and she does not afraid to use it.

Trying to save $28 on SIDI boot part can ruin the $300 bike seat.

People are religious up there. When my lunch food and drink price totaled $6.66 at the local restaurant. The cashier quickly took off $0.01!

I really need to get longer gloves. Otherwise, my hands will look like I had handcuffs on too long.

Do not say "I have something hard in my pants!" in public.

1. people in the south are very friendly and can talk your ear off. Some local dude joined be for breakfast Thursday morning and could have talked all day about the world.

4. what a Honey Bagger is LOL.

I wasn't there but did learn a few things from the reports,pics,& vids.

I wished I was a traveler cause I seemed to have missed out on one heck of a good time. :beer:

I now know what some of the people on here look like....I think. Still trying to sort that all out. :unsure:

1. Next year show up in better riding shape (ie. Don't have knee surgery one month before TMac)

2. Side stand bolts require locktight.

3. The cable bracket goes outside of the cluth cover and not under the gasket.

4. Wheeler is a great mechanic and a great guy.

5. Log out of VFRD before handing your laptop over to anyone.

6. Don't let Timmy walk up behind you.

7. Nicole loves wearing the color green.

8. CornerCarver has no idea what to do with mint leaves.

9. If you get hungry after midnight Kanadian Ken has delicious, fresh strawberries for you to eat.

1. Gaining weight during the 7 months you spend not riding in the northeast makes for a lot of soreness at TMAC

I don't quite understand. Are you saying that you were actually leaning more than you needed to for the speed you were going?

If so, it is still some awesome video seeing someones knee touching down like that on the street IMO.

1. I don't know what took me so long but I discovered third gear in the twisties
2. Riders get faster after 70
3. No matter what happens to our bike, it can almost always be fixed at T-mac.

At the gap, you can drag a knee going 15-20 mph.

The back seat of a Chevy Silverado is not bad for an hour ride.  Not good for 9 hour ride

Tie-down straps have a way of giving up the ghost when you least want them to

Steel side coolers keep stuff cold for a long time, but don't tie them down using the handles (grrrrrr)

When you need a break - TAKE IT.

Some Harley guys really enjoy watching VFRs rip through corners.  (Already known: Some are just complete A$$hats)

Some Harley guys will help you with your one piece leathers

I need to get 2 piece leathers as one looks like a donkey with half of the 1 pc leathers off walking around the Gap store.

(1) It was Great to see Old VFRD Friends again
(2) It was Great to make New VFRD Friends
(3) It was Great that there were no really serious injuries
(4) There was some really Great Catered Food
(5) After giving all of mine away, it was Great that my various Friends put a Beer in my hand all the time
(6) It was great to have newbie and/or straight road Riders pay attention to You and Your Sweep and show real progress all weekend (This includes the Riders in Faster Groups that asked me "twisty" questions)
(7) It was Great and "Comfortably Familiar" to have Smee42 (Randy) sweep for me all weekend
(8) It was Great to have and meet the Super Buncha' Folks I had both days in my Group
(9) It was Great to meet Lee 2002 after all these years of posting with Him
(10) It was Great to finally meet Muffer after missin' Him about 20 times in Liepers Fork, Tn
(11) It was Great that Baileyrock decided to use the 3rd Thursday in May every year for T-Mac, so some of us with "Crowded Calendars" can always schedule it in...OK, I made this one up, but it is a valid suggestion..... :biggrin:

1.  VFR riders can be damn fast

2.  My bike is much faster than I am

3.  The HoneyBadger 200 is actually closer to 140 miles long and it doesn't care!

4.  If you see "SLO" spray painted on the road either SLOW DOWN quick or be prepared to run way wide over the double yellows in a decreasing radius turn :blink:

5.  Keeping your line wide on corner entry can help greatly when encountering said decreasing radius turns

6.  You meet the nicest people on a Honda

7.  You meet the craziest nice people on a VFR :biggrin:   

8.  SEB has big feet

9.  TMAC is awesome fun and everyone accepts you... even if you don't own a VFR

There isnt a real corrolation between knee sliders and speed.  There are quite a few guys there who dont wear sliders and are very, very fast.  My point was that I am a bit quick and I know how to ride, but i still dont ride with the "fast group"  These fellows will shock you when you watch them go.  Knees or not, there are some incredibly skilled riders at TMac, and I try to learn from them until they get out of sight (happens fast).  Wherever my speed and skill level falls, the point was to have fun and not fall off.  i succeeded in both respects.

The fast guys know who they are and they are not the types who want recognition, they get along with the task of looking like a tron-bike fading out of your field of vision.  Then they give a beer later.

I learned:

1) Oyama thinks I'm faster than I really am.
2) I have a physical abnormality that prevents me from getting my knee down regardless of how far the bike is leaned over.
3) Riding by yourself at TMac is a great way to ride with more people than riding with a group.
4) Once you both get comfortable two up, everything gets better, and faster, and suddenly the big camera comes out and you get some great shots.  
5) My memory for names is worse than I ever though.
6) The longer the fuel light flashes, the cheaper the gas at the Gap seems.

1 - I've learned that there are peeps at T-Mac that will sacrifice some of their time to allow slower riders to tag along once or twice during the week.
2 - Wheelers shop between the Dragon and Robbinsville does a good sag adjustment.
3 - Riding the Dragon really helps my slow turn practice.
4 - So does the other road to Transylvania.
5 - Come with less stuff in my bags(I always bring too much).
6 - Try to meet more peeps at the motel.
7 - Come to T-mac on Mondays again(5 full days of riding).
Sorry about the riders that got off road, glad they weren't hurt any worse.........

I had my GOPRO also, Good video for the most and some not so good video...........

I'm too Old to learn anything!

I don't really start to enjoy the event fully until everyone is safely back Sat. night!

I don't relax until our first dinner is done!

It was a fantastic Tmac, awesome weather to boot.

VFRD peps are awesome!

I had a really Great solo ride home, guess there was nothing left to worring about then!   :blush:

I learned I can ride with Baileyrock all day without crashing! (I think it was a first... :blink: )
OK, maybe not the first time... Probably the first time without blowing any center lines!
Still scared to ride with HS... :laughing6-hehe:

I leaned that a guy from Florida can handle twisties! :biggrin:
I learned that you don't try to keep up with the guy on a 6th gen named "Zoomy". :goofy:

I learned that the VFR owners love to clean their bikes as soon as they get back to the motel. :cool:

I learned not to follow "Skuuter" to close on this trike.

I learned not to be intimidated by "The Dragon."

I learned that I must have cold beer ready to drink after a long days ride. :beer:

I learned that I must have shorts and flip flops after a long days ride on the veefer.

I learned that there is still a lot to learn about handling the hills and twisties of North Carolina. :happy:

Sochiro is Spiderman in disguise..  No really, he even has the red gear.  Not only is he the only person who's washed my bike in 2 years, he fixed my brake light wiring AND.. appeared out of nowhere on the street and re-attached my license plate before it fell off!!!  Thank you Doug!!!!!  Oh and I did get my lawnmower tired repaired tonight.  :)

4. I think I have *another* stalker...  

5. I am going to raise my bike to stock height.  

6. Gradus needs to start smoking again.  

7.  If you're a woman helping a man with his pants there will always be someone around with a camera..  lol

8. I need to incorporate bicycle riding into my workouts so I won't get so tired.

Here is what I learned.

This trip raised my game to new levels. I learned more from Arkansas to Nashville and Nashville to Franklin than most could learn in months or even years. Dutch, Baily, and Slammer put me to the test. I watched every line and body shift and in less than a thousand miles felt like a real rider.

Guys from Nashville really know a good set of legs when they see them...

I can not think of one person I did not find something to learn from or just plain enjoy time talking to.

I never knew where I was and I didnt care.... the whole time I was like Wee Wee Wee Wee stop sign gas Wee Wee Wee This is awesome!

1.  Chasing  Trace through the mountains for 350 miles on his RC51 will cause you to be very sore the next day
2.  I need to stay longer next time - 2 days of real riding with 2 days of slab is not a good ratio - thinking Wednesday - Monday next time....

4.  Don't ride with a hangover, even if it is the day going home
5.  Keep Ed from putting Diesel in his VFR at all costs.  Even with all the wrenches at this event, I don't think that one would be fixed any time soon.

I guess I'm the only one who learned how bad my technique was, and what I need to do to fix it.  

It's amazing how even the simple mistakes are something you simply can't figure out by yourself at home with no twisties nearby.

I learned:

Like Derek Zoolander, "I am not an ambiturner."

What seems like a slight lean is having your weight on the wrong side of the bike.

I learned at the beginning of TMAC that what feels like leaning too far is not.

I learned at the end that I should put my knee sliders on my pants.

I round my curves too much.

If a can says 10W30, you should check to make sure it's not beer before pouring it into your bike, or make sure it's not oil before drinking it (still deciding which would be worse).

I also learned that VFRD is the greatest group of people in the world!

I learned that apparently I'm known for dropping the F bomb like it's going out of style..........I still don't know what the F*** you're talking about Trace.

I learned that there is a 119 year old woman who lurks in the grocery store across the street from the hotel who really, really, likes rough and tumble sport-touring types.  She introduced herself as "Betty Boots" and apparently, she is eagerly waiting for my return to Franklin.

TMAC is like going on vacation with my 75 brothers - and Andrea!!  :)  Seriously, I feel safe and relaxed and have a ball.   I also had no idea Andrea was fairly close to me until after TMAC.  So I hope we can coordinate something and go riding!

Nicole just wanted to eat her burger in peace but us guys would not leave her alone than Muff had to go and make a joke about tailpipes?  Anyways what did I learn from the Tmac?  My worst day at tmac is better then my best day at work!  being back at work sucks!

I got back just in time to work 16 out of 24 hours, and then I was informed I would be the only Sergeant working on midnights for the Memorial Day weekend. (there are usually 6)  Going now to look for the TMAC 2012 Sign-up thread...........................

Yep, Squid central whether it's bikes, cages or Semi's it usually sux! Early am or late pm is ok though.

I learned:
- TN/NC roads are like nothing in MN
- how to ride like a human being
- following Bent is like a week at riding school
- that you will encounter 1) a semi completely blocking a turn after rounding a blind corner, 2) a semi willingly destroy the side of it's trailer against the cliffs on the inside of a corner to avoid taking out Bent and who ever is behind him
- riding fast in the rain is possible
- sticky tires mean everything and same tires showing wear bars will not get you home from Franklin to Minnesota
- you had better have strong stomach muscles going in because they will get a workout from all the humor from the peepl
- VFRD peepl are the best

I learned it really sucks to crash :angry:

There were No VFR's harmed in the making of the 2011 Tmac! :tongue:
