How do you lock up your helmets if you have side bags?

I recently purchased and installed a set of OEM side bags on my 6th Gen.  I was planning on doing a weekend trip this weekend and realized that if the side bags are full... I have no where to lock up my helmet when I stop.  With the side bags on its not possible to lock the helmet chin strap ring under the seat.

What do y'all do?

Actually it can be done.......... but that's not why I'm answering. Go to a bicycle shop or REI and get a small combo lock cable.... Which is also good for running though the sleeve of your jacket.

Actually, I can't put my HJC on that silly hook, bags or no.  Unless I'm doing it wrong, but taking the seat off is still a PITA.

I have a Shoei X-11 size XL and an Icon Airframe size XXL. Both chin strap D rings will fit on the hooks underneath the seat when I have my Givi V35's installed. You just have to be a little more careful when you do it. The helmet will rest on the top of the hard bag. If for some reason that don't work for you I'd go with Monk's small combination cable lock idea. Make sure you get the combo lock, you don't want to risk losing a key to get your helmet off the bike 100's of miles from home.

I bought a standard 7/8" tube mount helmet lock and just mounted it on the flat stock cross brace for the hard bags. When locked, my hemlet hangs down & rests on the rear tire. Obviously not good for transporting a helmet but I usually wear my helmet, not just carry it in case I need it!

I use a cable lock long enough for two helmets, jackets, and pants. A bit bulky, but it works.

The other thing I was thinking was, does this hurt the plastic at all?  Since it sticks out from under the seat and the weight of the helmet is now pressing down on the end of this bar it will be pushing down on the plastic underneath? Scratches etc?

Though I got mine at Walmart even cheaper.  I think it says 'Remington' on it. :biggrin:   It's just long enough to loop through the chinbar and around the handlebars, or any other convenient place.

RE: I got mine off of Amazon.com. If you are worried about scratches (mine have never scratched my bike) you could simply dip them in that liquid ruberized plastic stuff for coating hand tools.

Loop cable lock. one end thru lid and jacket, then thru the second loop and to the bike's lock,

Another option is barender.com
I use them on my CBR and they work fine, with no false-lock "drop the helmet" disasters.  About $100/pr.
