Looking to buy a VFR1200F. A dealer in NY has one listed for $12,999, all fees included, new, 2010, Manual transmission. What is a good negotiating price to stick to? Or reasonable request for a discount on a luggage thrown into the deal?
What type of deals has everyone gotten? I want to pick a number and stick with it when I go to the dealer.
If it matters I have 3k cash for down payment and solid credit to finance the rest.

Can't say that I've ever bought a new bike, but my appraoch w/ cars, new or used, is to find the lowest price in the country, knock 20% off that number and use that as my first offer. If you honestly intend to buy then talk to a couple of dealers for reference, stay nice, stick to a hard negotiating line, only give a little when you need to and use extras for leverage. You'll be amazed at what you can get away with. A few yrs ago I managed to get a new VW for nearly $2500 cheaper than any other 'best offer' anyone on any of the forums I visited had come close to seeing. Last yr I chipped $2500 off the price of a used Jeep, and I still haven't seen one for sale at that price. Dealers will give up almost everything that they can afford to move a vehicle, so don't be afraid to ask. The worst that can happen is that they say no.
wow thats 3k off msrp! Good price, doubt you will get anywhere trying to negotiate that down but its worth a shot. I paid $500 more and had to fly to Oklahoma to get it, then I had to pay taxes at home.
Just read HS's post - $12999 is about a 20% discount on MSRP. I'd be willing to bet that you could either get that number down another $500, or get the equivalent in accesories. Give it a shot, you never know. ; -)
I've been kicking around replacing my '04 6th Gen with either a new/leftover '09 ABS, '10 VFR1200 or '11 K1300S.... Been watching the prices on the VFR1200 drop over the last few months. Check CycleTrader and eBay for price checks - I've seen a few new '10 VFR1200F's for $10,799 to $10,799. Hope that helps.

Probably New York Honda. Darren told me that was the price (12,999) @ the bike show back in January. I picked mine up in May. He didn't budge on the price. I tried the 500 dollar low ball thing too. Didn't work. But I put 3000 down also. Payments are 237 for 60 months.
I might be selling mine in a month or two. If you don't like that price you can buy mine. :-)
I only have 350 miles. It feels a lil sluggish, and the gearing is a little strange. Guess I'm used to the power and flick ability of my dearly departed CBR 1K. I'm going to get passed break in and give it a chance with the mobil 1. If I'm not in love with it by then I'm gonna have to sell it.

I just bought a 1200 from a dealer just outside Milwalkee, WI for $11488. That's Harley country up there, nobody's buying Hondas. Price was $10999, but they added $489 for freight /prep....which was still the cheapest I've seen for a brand new untitled VFR1200.

we had NONE out here. not a one. the 6 my dealer had in new, 4 of them were paid for cash before they were un-crated. also taxes here are 9.5%. not sure if yours are any lower or not. the extra warantee cost me a few hundred bucks too.
you got a great deal on that bike. several people I knew were paying out the nose for them.
my point though was, if its a 2010 or 2011, you might be able to find some good deals on "used" (hardly IMHO) bikes.

I agree. The deals are out there if you look. I recently saw a "used" VFR1200 with standard transmission for $10,999 with saddlebags included. If I didn't already have mine I'd have been all over that. I do really like the auto shift though. Really works for the riding I do on my commute back and forth to work. I have to run the turnpike and deal with tolls and also have to deal with security checks at work so not having to deal with a clutch is really nice.
I dont know what Honda was thinking giving the VFR1200 a $16000 MSRP. When they first announced the price i told myself there is no way these bikes are gonna sell for $16000. They are nice bikes, but not $16000 nice. And now a year or so later after they launched them, the prices are coming way down, cuz dealers can't sell em. Keep looking, there are good deals out there!

Brookfield is like 10miles west of Milwaukee. I actually live in Ohio, and they delivered it to me here. Took 5 days
for them to deliver it....was the longest 5 days ever...lol!

Right now I am shopping for a bigger bike for the wife and all the dealerships I have checked have less than a handful of used bike for sale. Only the new models are available. Heck, good deals on Craigslist disappear within 48 hours of being posted. Thankfully we are in no hurry so when the "summer romance" ends I expect to be able to pick up a good deal in the next couple of months.
Your best bet is to expand your search area. Even if shipping adds $500 that $11K price tag in Milwaukee is still cheaper than $13K at your local dealership. And buying a lightly used one is another great way to go. Either way good luck! :fing02:

Agree with the "wait til fall" strategy in principle, although I'm starting to see VFR1200s getting a little thinner on the ground, so I panicked and bought one.
I WAS going to wait for the fall, but two dealers here (Houston) just sold their Demos within the last two weeks so I've gotten a little skiddish.
Last week I found demo at a local dealer with 137 miles and a 24 month extended warranty (which Honda apparently allows on the dealer demos). Final price was $12K + TTL, or about 25% off MSRP.
I think that better deals MAY be had before the end of the year, but I didn't want to take the chance; a few years ago I missed a couple of BMW K1300Ss that way, and NOW the K1300 is way too expensive. I figured I'd better strike while the iron was hot.
Re: distant dealers
I bought a 2009 Aprilia Dorsoduro "long distance" at the beginning of the year ($7500 DELIVERED to my door), but I doubt I would have done that it I didn't have the best Aprilia dealer in the country (AF-1 in New Braunfels Texas) right up the road.
If you're doing the Remote Purchase thing, make sure you have a contingency plan in place to get problems resolved.
My Honda Dealer: Sportline Power Products (sportlinepower.com) in Glens Falls, NY has one for $11,999 - at least he did on Thursday last - 7/28/11 They are an EXCELLENT dealer, fair prices, very helpful - good old fashion customer service - and they test ride bikes too! Call and speak with them about it - it was on the floor but not listed online.
Picked mine up two weeks ago in Houston - $12,599 for a demo with 48 miles on it. They knocked off another $400 (Honda bonus bucks program) and discounted the side bags 20%.

I just got mine VFR1200FD the DCT model couple weeks ago. I paid 16,300 out of the door. The MSRP was $17,999 plus tax and license and other fee add up to about over $21,000! I was going to walk but finally they want to sale me so the $16k was about 20% off. I am not too sure if I paid too much but I love the bike!!

I'm curious, as Honda of Houston (on 290) had TWO, bu wouldn't negotiate on price when I was there 2 months ago (although they did have the single cutest Honda sales girl in the whole wide world). OTOH I did get an 18 month Honda warranty.
Hope you don't hold-on to these 2010s too long. As my accountant buddies say, they're a "wasting asset".
So no solid California pricing? Damn tax here is 8.75% So they get us raped. I guess shooting for 12500 new non demo would be a good goal ? Don't have one there is a Demo Model with 7k mileage @ 10699 out here would you guys buy that ? Trying to stretch my dollars.
