Mirror Extender Update July 2011

I sold my last pair just a few days ago and I have about 4 people wanting me to make another batch.

FrankoQ
Humalogaddict
jbackus4
tx_vfr

I need another 6-8 people to sign up to make another batch worth my while.  I don't get rich making these things, but I would like to get my costs covered.  I buy the new bolts in boxes of 100 to keep the price down, the price of acrylic trends with the price of gas, I need new sanding belts / paper, and I need more paint.  I also make a donation to VFRD with every batch.

This is NOT a for sale thread...my final pricing will be determined once I know the price of the acrylic.  But expect in the area of $35 shipped for 6th gens and $45 shipped for 5th gens.  If I get enough interest i will get my stuff and post an official FS thread and then we can connect via PM for payments and the like.

Please know the 5th gen variety is only for 2000 - 2001 bikes or any other 5th gen with Y2K mirrors.  The bolt spacing is the same with the condom mirrors, but I don't know how well the bottom of the mirror would mount to my extenders.

The batch would start circa mid august and pieces should begin shipping circa late august.

Post up here if you're interested or have technical questions.

Thanks!

Will your product fit the GSXR mirror conversion?
#4
Hey, if you are thinking about these --- I ordered a pair last year and they work great. It really helps with the visibility in the rear mirror. Great product. Thanks again for making these.

I see you have a 98...hmmm...I didn't realize Darth did them for 5th gen bikes...but anyway it should still fit just fine.

If it doesn't, then send them back and I'll refund your money.

PM me for an email and send me a pic of what you have and I may be able to tell right away.

Well, that's just it, I haven't done the GSXR mod, but I want to. So I was hoping this was the part I need. I guess not. Thanks for responding to the noob questions.

1990-1999 use the exact same condom mirrors, and you can retrofit y2k mirrors back to the 1990 model, so I would say yes. But the condom mirrors with the extenders will look goofy.

I'd upgrade the mirrors and fit the extenders in one go if I were you.

You might find EMGO knockoffs of the y2k mirrors for less on EBAY, that's where I got mine.

Sent a couple of messages to people who have admired mine. Come on guys step up!

I'll make em.  I'm sure a couple more will trickle in.

It'll be mid-late August before they ship.

Have a few waves to ride in the meantime...

They are made from 2 pieces of 3/4" thick acrylic plastic welded together.  I would use 1.5" acrylic, but that stuff is effectively bullet proof glass and is very expensive.  The plastic weld makes them strong as hell, but you will see a slight joint line.  If the joint line is a visual issue for anyone, then please don't buy my extenders....although honestly....a non-VFR person looking at your bike will likely never even notice you have extenders in the first place!

I am buying raw materials today...more to come.

Batch is in production.

An official For Sale thread will be posted next week.

I will be ready to begin shipping at least the first 6-8 sets next week.

The bolts haven't arrived yet and I need to replace some new sanding discs...it doesn't pay to buy cheap shite

Once the FS thread is up, I will close this thread.

All of you who have posted here will get a PM from me with details...in addition to the FS thread.

Thanks for the interest and another donation to VFRD will be coming soon.

Indispensable and high quality mod as far as I am concerned... seeing behind you is priceless!

You will be wondernig what you did before these   :fing02:

Yep.
Love mine!
#59
These really are worth it.  I got mine last year, and it does make a difference.  I am a small guy and could see around myself pretty well, but with the extender on the rear view is a lot better.

Also the fit is perfect, the quality is great, and they look good.

Thanks for the props!  I appreciate it.

Burkhardt ultimately sent me mine, but they came out of the blue after a complaint to Paypal.  If you can get them by phone, maybe they've fixed their issues.  The product looks great and works fine.
