what's the purpose of the 2 resonators in the air box?
noise suppresion?
better intake air flow?

Sound.

did you remove yours?
The heat shield under the ECM looks like a pain to remove. Since I blocked off the PAIR line going into the front cylinders, I'm thinking of not trying to install the CBR block off plates.
What's your opinion of the BMC air filter, and also the PC V and Auto tune (if you have one installed)
Thanks

I didn't remove mine but I would be curious to hear what it sounds like without them. The intake tubes of most cars have something similar. AFAIK they create a bit of turbulence to quiet the "whooshing" sound.

I'm personally not keen on cloth filters.... I prefer to use the paper OEM ones and change them often. I think the stock ones are better at trapping really fine particles.

I haven't installed a PC5 yet, though I expect I will eventually. Rather than the auto-tune I'll probably have a custom map built by an experienced tuner. I'm not worried about winning spec sheet races at the Burger Barn, but I would like to smooth out the mid-throttle surging between 3 and 5000RPM and maybe get a little better fuel economy and a bit stronger midrange.

I removed the resonators; about to order a PC V since Bazzaz is another month or more away. Not going to buy the auto tune though.
You think it's better to splice the GPS wires at the ECM or down by the GPS?
And thanks for your replies. Nice new photo on your bolg website too.

Thanks for following my blog. I hope you found some useful information.

Please share if you can hear any difference in sound with the resonators out. If it sounds growlier I might take mine out too.

It is definitely easier and better to splice the wires at te GPS. Much easier to get at and simpler. You only have the 6 wires to deal with (6 gears plus neutral) whereas at the ECU you have to identify the proper wires. The only advantage to splicing at the ECU is that it's a shorter path to the handlebars if you were to wire a switch in there.

If you read my blog you'll see that I repaired the wires at the ECU and made the hack at the GPS, with a switch running under my seat.

It's great to see other guys tinkering with their VFR1200. Such a fascinating machine with so much potential to unlock.

I've got an epic ride planned for the first week of august through Montana, Wyoming and Idaho so stay tuned for some ride reports with pics and video.

Sounds like a great ride. It's 104 everyday here in Texas now. A good time to tinker with the bike. Last night I spliced the wires at the ECM.
1st into 5th and 2nd into 6th. So, it will read 5,6,N,3,4,5,6 now. I turned the key on and no error lights so far. I thought maybe unplugging the evap cannister solenoid might generate an error. I decided just to plug the front cylinders PAIR hose and the evap cannister line into the throttle bodies. Waiting on RC51 block off plates for the rear cylinders, since they are easy to get at. Going to order a PC V early in the week from Motorcycle superstore ($300). Then put her back together and see how it does. Thanks for your great blog on the VFR1200.
When I finish, I should get a dyno run so that I can put on flip flops, shorts, nazi helmet, and do some stunt wheelies at the local burger barn and swap dyno lies. LOL
