I thought I would share a few pics of an I-phone holder I made. It works great and when paired to my Scala G4 and offers NAV, music streaming, and phone. I had all of this while the phone was on my hip or pocket except the Nav map but I like being able to see it for caller id function and it always seemed to be in the way of my jacket when I kept it on my hip.
The first one I made was a much cleaner design but it was too flimsy and would bounce the I-phone when I would hit bumps so I had to use the aluminum angle on both sides to stiffen it. It is spaced off of the tank by rubber washers using the existing tank collar bolts. I had everything I needed laying around except for the clip holder itself. It is an OtterBox holder from Walmart ($45) and is very sturdy. All in all it works great but it is battery power only but it lasts pretty much all day anyway. I haven't installed the plug option.

This is true, but what's the fun in that??? I'd much rather spend hours in my garage trying to make something that I can be proud of, instead of buying a store bought version. Although sometimes I fail, and have to but the store bought version. As far vee1cut's iPhone holder goes, perhaps vee1 came up with something additional/different than what was offered in the way of mounting position or adaptability.

This is true, although you can buy tips that go over your gloves to use the iPhone and other smart phones while wearing gloves, but I forgot the link. Look in sportrider, or Motorcyclist magazine, as that's where I saw the ad/link...
I have the Iphone Ram mount,,, I use it even at my desk.. (suction cup mount). But like others dont really find it useful as the touch screen needs bare hands.. Somebody find the glove tips link
Want your gloves to work on your phone? get some metal braided thread at any sewing store and sew some into the finger tips of your gloves. works like a charm.

I am really glad that BefBever the Flying Belgian put me on to this site, as all y'all are tinkerers after my own heart.
The only problem that I personally have with this tinkering habit is that there's often a pretty substantial learning curve for me, so the second iteration is almost always much much better than the first, although I often find myself living with the first version.
Vee1Cut's mount is pretty excellent right out of the box, though.
I hope we see some "riffs" on this theme, as I think he's on to something.
BTW, excellent "tip" (no pun intended) from Georges on the metallic thread. I'll have to put my seamstress other half onto that problem; HOW much thread is required?
i've learned it best to but a drop of superglue on the pin thread before screwing them together otherwise they tend to unscrew and you lose the rubber half.
Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement. It's far from perfect but seems to work good. I first and foremost wanted something that was super secure and super rigid with cosmetics coming in 3rd place. I know something similar could have been bought but I had fun constructing it. (sorta) lol.
Thanks also for the info on the glove tips...I didn't think about that as I usually wear tipless gloves but this winter the metal thread info will definitely come in "handy". :-)
