86 VFR750F, how do I get the valve cover back on?

Just got this bike from a friend for free, (rough shape) I got the valve cover off with some difficulty but I can't get it back on! There isn't enough room between the frame tubes . Do I need to unbolt the rear frame section? I don't have a manual.
My second question is, will carbs from other years fit a 1986 vfr750f? The previous owner took these off the wrong way and did some damage and lost some parts. Thanks for any help.

I've done many valve adjustments on my old 86 vfr. basically you just have to figure it out. It's a tight fit but not an impossible.one. Gast tank removed? I had the factory shop manual. it helps.
