Hey all,

I am a recent owner of an 83 vf750f. It just came back to life after a few months of inactivity due to me working away from where I am storing it (long story, don't ask.) But, I finally got everything back together last weekend, and got her runnign strong. The issue I think I am having now is possible clutch slipping, so I come to you to for counsel.

Details:

Runs fine,
idles well,
runs great with great accel in 1st and 2nd, okay/good accel in 3rd, but nothing after that. 4th and 5th just do nothing. she tops out at around 60 mph.

I'm not with her at the moment, so I tend to worry and attempt to exhaust all options until I can take a look at her. I am not sure of the oil that is in it. I think an oil change is in order with proper moto oil in it. (this was not supposed to be as big a project as it is, and as such I'm not sure that I should trust the seller I got it from.) I'm hoping that will save her, but I don't know. I do know that before I did the carb work, she did have the cajones to get up to at least 80.

Any input is appreciated. This is the first bike I have owned/worked on. I've been on and around dirt and street from a young age. Also, is there a good source for replacement tubes between the carbs? (the plastic fuel equalization tubes) I ended up milling new ones out for mine at work out of aluminum. Just for future reference.

Thanks for reading, and sorry for all the questions.

I bought an old girl, 1983 Interceptor, and the P.O. told me it was hard to shift, my test drive confirmed that. Did not shift like my Harley's. so O.K. that's the way it is with a sport bike. So later, not knowing what kind of oil was in the bike I changed the oil and filter with this oil.

I could not believe what happened, this bike shifted like butter, and the engine quited down significantly. I'm sure there are a lot of good oils out there in the market. But just wanted to share my experience with an old bike.
P.S.
It also quit smoking out the tail pipes.
