Hey everybody, So I want to buy some of the symtec heating elements soon but the PO of the bike i just bought put some weird super fat grips on that i feel will be too thick to work with the heating elements so i want to buy some new grips but will have to buy bar ends too as youll see in the picture.
I eventually want to get some Throttle Meister bar ends but dont have the cash at the moment. are there just some cheap bar ends i can get in the mean time? also, what are some nice comfortable grips i could get.

Not sure about the ends, I have the stock ones and they are fine. I do like the ProGrip brand "Gel" grips. I get mine at Cycle Gear, I think I paid around $5 and they are great.
Think the symtecs will work through those, but looks like you could do better with grips anyway

yeah, they are kind of weird. they dont look all that fat in the picture, but they feel really bulky, and I wont be able to put a throttle meister on with the weird ends.

I have very similar grips on my old wing and like them a lot. But, I don't carry much weight on my hands with the wing. I doubt I would like them on the VFR.

I don't necessarily dislike them, they are just different than I am used to, and restrict my options for a few aftermarket accessories I would like to add.
'Barrel' grips are much better ergonomically, because they fit the natural curve of your palm much better than straight grips - make a grip shape with your hand and see. I reckon they'd be great for long trips.

So barrel grips are what im assuming i have? And do you think hey are too thick to get a good amount of heat through them if i get some heating elements? thats the only thing im worried about.
Yep they are barrel grips, and most heated grips get so hot on the hottest setting that you can't hold them anyway, so you should be right...
I just put some Symtecs on this week and what's been said is exactly right, those things get so hot I have to turn them off. They will work fine with those grips.
I've tried half a dozen grips over my last four bikes and the BMWs are my favorites. They're thinner at the inside end and flare out toward the other end which makes for a very natural feeling and secure grip. They're reasonably soft rubber and a lot more comfortable than the stock VFR grips. BMW part #s are 32721458395, left and 32721458396, right. They're about $20 for the pair.
I've used them with Dual-Star heaters on three bikes and they work very well. You can see the switch for the Dual-Stars on the fairing under the grip. Also used them with a Throttlemeister on my ST1100 and that was a good combination. I have Convertibars on this VFR so I can't use Honda-style bar ends. The ones in the picture are delrin and are installed with an expandable rubber plug on a bolt inside the bar.

I have used those BMW grips as well, oddly enough, on a BMW. I can second how comfy they were.
From what I heard, grip heaters need frequent replacement... is this true?
+1 on the beemer grips, had 'em on my st1100 - but i put cruiser style kuryakyn iso grips on my vfer- i personally love 'em, no bar ends.
