Galfers SS Brake lines leaking after one year!!

My friend put a set on his Yamaha R1 about a year ago.

Today he was going to get it inspected and one of the front lines was leaking heavily.

The connection to the banjo was leaking inside the clear outer coating of plastic. Then out a split in the clear casing down to the front brake caliper.

It did a number on the caliper paint already and he spend  a while cleaning off the whole front end of the bike.

.At least he noticed it before he lost all fluid.!!

This a just a warning about this companies brake lines. YMMV



I'm so glad I went with HEL lines when I upgraded mine.

I'll post what Galfer's response is after he talks to them.

An SS line leaking? Wow, thats the first time I ever heard of that.........

I'm running Speigler and have had them for 7 years and no problems.

I've built my own from bulk line and fittings and never had a leak.

Do let us know what comes of this. Galfer products are usually very good. I've got their discs and pads on the front of my bike and very happy with them.

Where'd you get your lines and fittings from?

Local bike shop at the time, but I'm sure there are plenty of outfits that sell them online, maybe ask Seb as he has probably researched this recently.

He called and after some arguing to get them to replace both lines. They are sending out a new set for the front.

I still wouldn't trust Galfer. I just couldn't believe how much fuid they leaked and how much was comming out when he pumped the front brake lever!

The Hel lines I had were smaller in diameter and looked better made than those lines.

I know my next ss lines will be HEL or Spiegler!

Could have been the installer/installation. I've got a set on my Yamaha that's been on there for about 15 years and nary a leak. I'll stand by my Galfer's any day.

im done buyer galfer lines also,  if there is a 180 bend in the application your installing them onto, the fitting on the end will be facing the wrong way.  this has happeded to me everytime from dirt bikes to street ones.

im giving Spiegler Performance my money pretty soon for my vfr brake/clutch lines.  I hear they are really good quality

The fittings on the end can be rotated to suit - just grab the ends and twist. That may help you out depending on the installation.

I've had Galfer lines on my '95 for over 10 years without any issues. Until this thread I hadn't heard any negative reviews about them here. I would buy them again, but obviously your experience was different.

dammit....now i have to give that a try on my ninja 250r line.  i hate the feel of brake fluid on my fingers :sad:
