Installing a VFRNess Correctly

I've been attempting to diagnose my charging system problems and have a Stator and R/R from wiremybike on the way.

As I'm reading on installing the stator, it's raising questions about my install of the VFRNess.  Yes I know I still need a hot test of the stator output and others from the electrosport chart.

My question though is:
  • Can a faulty install of the VFRNess cause the R/R to malfunction from heat?
  • What can I do to ensure those connections work after everything heats up?
I'm an electrical noob, but I read a post suggesting improper grounding or resistance in the wiring to/from the VFRNess could cause the R/R to overheat/malfunction.  

I ask because I had no NOTICEABLE issues until the VFRNess install which I did along with a voltage monitor.  Did the voltage monitor install uncover my issue or did my install itself create the issue????

I also used the ground for the VFRNess at the R/R for grounding 3 accessories.  I read a post where I should scrape some paint off that point for a better ground and there was nothing grounded there before the VFRNess.  Initially, I thought wiring shouldn't have a different impact depending on riding time, RPMs or heat, but I'm questioning that assumption.

I used dielectric grease on the connectors of the VFRNess, but not the ground points.  Wondering if I should have used Oxgard instead (although there is the concern of shorting).

Because I can only test anything hot after 25 minutes of riding and then have to recharge the battery for a retest, I'm trying to see what I can learn without that repeated cycle.

I can't imagine a scenario where correctly installing the VFRness (making sure no connections are left unplugged when done) would result in a heat issue.  Since this is a common Honda issue I am willing to bet it existed in some fashion all along and your voltmeter installation just showed it to you.

Do have the VFRness installed but i also installed a fan on the rectifier. a Year now no issues

I wasn't attempting to suggest there was something wrong with the VFRNess.  I was concerned I might have installed it incorrectly possibly by the way I did the grounds and that my installation was causing resistance --> heat --> failure.  There is ample evidence here that the VFRNess itself is a net positive in the system.
