ihilker, I'm sorry I didn't see your post sooner. I went on an epic ride from OC to Elsinore, Temcula to Julian to Pine Valley, Sunrise Hwy, etc. Sat, April 21. 370 miles (my ass hurt). I'm in Rancho Cucamonga and would like to ride with some guys again soon. Saturdays are best for me.
Well, I'm out for the forseeable future; I had a left turner take me out on my 81 Goldwing. My ankle was broken in two places. Now I've got screws in there, and the staples are coming out tomorrow. I'll be on the mend for at least the next month or two.
Maybe it's a good thing I was on my Wing; the bulk of the engine sticking out took the brunt of the collision and not my leg. Unfortunately my restoration/upgrade will be totaled. The bastard started a left turn into me in a 40mph zone, on an empty street!
I was so close to him that I didn't have room to swerve much; only enough room to keep from broadsiding him.
If he couldn't see me, on a huge green Goldwing, others will not be seeing you-all on smaller VFRs.
Watch out, it's idiot season.

That sucks man! Godspeed on your recovery.
Went out last weekend (for the first time) sporting the S/S Hi-Viz Yllw Jacket, Hi-Viz Bell Vortex Modular (mainly for lightweight and venting ability), Hi-Viz Wheels and hardware bits. All with Modulating Headlight and Wig-Wag tail lights.
It looks kinda weird all together but if it helps being seen and not hit...I'm all in.
I can't afford the down time :/
Weird is good; they tend to look and laugh.
They saw you.
I think I'm going to buy a Headlight Modulator for my VFR after this last incident.
I was the only moving thing on a secondary street @ 1pm on a cloudless day. A HUGE bright green Goldwing is a difficult thing not to see.
Going to take a ride this weekend around SoCal and stop somewhere quiet and scenic to grade papers and drink coffee.
Anyone want to meet up for a brisk morning ride? I've been on this forum for a year now and have only met one of you guys (Bayarearider in Laguna Seca).
Ill be at the rockstore sunday morning but its mothers day and a bit far north for you guys from the look of it. Surprised how few VFRDers I meet around here. When I was ZRXing I used to run into guys all the damn time.

I meeting up with an acquaintance tomorrow and we'll be heading up PCH to Laguna Hills Cycle Gear to look for a new helmet for the wife. We'll be leaving Westminster @9:30. Most likely heading to Seal Beach then North to Laguna.

I'll be at Lakeshore Towers until about 11am then will take off for my ride, lunch, and grading. Leaving Irvine and not sure where I'll be headed. Need to pick up some cheek pads so maybe I'll swing by and see if I catch you. Will take Santiago to Jamboree back home.

I'll keep an eye out for you! BTW, I'll be on the VFR not the Duc

I've always wondered..... Is it hard to read about TMac for you guys who are too far to attend? I sure would like to get out your way some day.
To be honest no. We seem to get more ride time than the East Coast due to the weather, So. Cal really doesn't have a Winter, but we do seem to have a lack of getting together as a group. Most of us will probably meet coincidentally at Laguna Seca, like Recalcitrance and Bayarearider, as it seems like a lot of people will be riding up for that. I would like to get to the other side of the Rockies at some point. Uncle Sam and a very busy work schedule kind of made sure it wouldn't happen this year! I'm sure at some point, us "West Coasters" will figure out the group ride and make it happen.
Agreed. The weather here allows for year-round riding, but there is a severe lack of community with riders. Most of the "bike nights" I've attended are filled with children on race bikes who like to go fast and do stunts on the freeway. Needless to say I quit going to those events after 2 attempts.
Also, the VFR isn't very popular here. It doesn't fit into the Orange County image. Sad really since it's such a great bike.
It's not hard for us to read about your rides. It's hard for me to see how much commaraderie we're missing out on.
lol. too funny...
about 3 years ago I joined up and started organizing a few rides.
the first year saw 4-5 rides with anywhere from 4 riders to 30 (Palomar)
second year saw about a dozen rides
last year I planned 2.
lol. such is the way of having an active teenager...
This year shouldn't be too bad.
1 ride planned so far...
I'm already considering next Saturday for the 2nd
Maybe north and south should meet somewhere in the middle.
Kudos to mk2davis riding 2up to the North Bay this weekend for the Cee Cee hand off.
We all can vicariously enjoy the travels with the little chimp.
Look for the Cee Cee travals thread, sign up for the hand off and post your favorite locations.
I'm hosting (trying to host) an ice cream bike night this Wednesday, 5/16 at 5:30pm.
It's getting pretty warm down here in Orange County and I posted this event on a local OC forum. I'm hoping that a few VFR's will show up if I make mention of it here.
It's on the Santa Ana/Costa Mesa line next to South Coast Plaza. Hans Homemade Ice Cream is just across the street on the north side of Sunflower.
405 Freeway
Exit Bristol (north)
Pass Sunflower and turn Left at the stop light into the shopping plaza.
You'll see a McDonalds on your left and a Bank of America straight ahead. Hans will be to the right of the bank.
Parking is plentiful and easy.
There's a lot to do in the area so if you guys get hungry, you can have your dinner after your dessert. The Thai joint next door is pretty good (if you like Thai).
A few of my students as well as riders from the Orange County Motorcycle group will be there so come and share some ice cream, make some new friends, and look at pretty bikes!
Anyone up for a ride in the IE mountains? I'm thinking meet in Redlands and go Hwy 38 to Big Bear, Hwy 18 to Lake Arrowhead and end in San Bernardino or continue on to Silverwood via 138 and back to the 15. Or do the 138 to the 2? I'm available afternoon on 5/26, 6/2 or all day 6/9. Let me know.
I stopped looking for and posting rides here because everyone does their own thing. I'd like to do an epic all day ride down Palomar Julian way before it gets too damned hot. Between BTE and VFRD we should put together an entertaining ride. I'll get on it. Shayne can help me out. Oh master ride planner and cat herder. LOLs
If anyone is interested please chime in. MSGTR, sorry to hear about your accident. We'll give you the video camera and you can be our official cameraman. :fing02:

Any corners (on Palomar) big enough to park a Tacoma in?
