I'm not a mechanic or an engineer, but I know a few things about brakes:
First of all: something like this should not happen between service intervals.
My experience with the brakes on my VFR:
- the braking power is incredible: this generates a lot of heat.
- had a few track days and brakes were pushed to the limit: no problems (even with the dot 4.1)
- I clean the brakes a lot with a very popular bikers product were I live. It is incredible how much durt comes out of these calipers every time I clean it. Afterwards I put WD 40 on it. The first 20 miles I have to drive very careful because the pads won't stick properly.
From what I read:
The pistons push the brakepads against the disc but they don't retract properly after braking and generate so a lot heat on the disc and the piston (might explain the deformed discs). Overheated brakes don't give breaking power either.
The fact that the pistons don't retract properly can have many causes: broken seals, no or not enough grease in certain parts, wrong design so dirt builds up, so the pads/pistons can't retract. Keep in mind that for a six piston caliper with combined braking system the design is very compact.
Anyway, this should be solved by Honda, because this can happen to all of us If we don't know what causes this.
