07-08 Yamaha R1 rotors and 6 piston calipers

I bought the forks, calipers and rotors from the same person and my wheel is an 05 F1 which should be the same as the 07 R1. Problem I have is the caliper bottoms out on to the rotor before the caliper bolts a tightened.  Has anyone come across this issue?  Was there supposed to be washers on the caliper bolts?

Most radial brake systems utilize a spacer on the caliper posts.

This allows different rotor diameters to be fitted without changing the calipers.

You are probably looking at 5mm or 10mm spacers (guessing).

Setting the caliper on the disc and aligning the brake pads with the rotor band should give you an idea. Also check the parts diagrams for the appropriate year of R-1 which should show the spacers.

This will probably be your problem R1 from 04-06 used 320mm rotors (4 piston calipers), from 07-11 310mm rotors (6 piston calipers).

So what you have is 04-06 rotors & 07-11 calipers.

You either need to replace rotor or calipers to matching years or add spacers to caliper mounts to accommodate larger rotors you have (Honda do this from factory). Do a google search for spacers for an R1 as many R1 riders use the larger rotors on the 07-11 model.

Don't use common washers to space the brake calipers outward. There are correct spacers for this use.

So I wonder if the spacers would be drilled at one end for the locating dowels on the calipers?

So it seems you would have to have a 10mm spacer with a 11mm hole drilled and counter sunk at one end to 13mm to accept the locating dowels? Or do you even need the dowels?
I just verified the calipers are 320mm.  Crap  It's almost a wash, getting some used 310mm calipers on Ebay or dick around machining some spacers, getting longer bolts etc.

You don't have to machine spacers, they are available for that purpose.

Try speigler or any other speed merchants. Especially ones doing brakes/ rotors/lines.

The 320 discs with 6 piston calipers are going to be awesome! You're almost there.

Secondly, these are readily available, you don't need to spec out custom parts.

Lastly, yes, the spacers are counterbored to accept the locating dowel. The dowels keep all the parts aligned.

I bought some spacers from a local company in Ca 6061 aluminium, I also bought a 33/64 bit to counter sink the spacers to accept the caliper locating dowels,they will be here tomorrow. I got the longer bolts locally in Berkeley at Bolin Co.I would have gone crazy waiting for pars from England when I am this close

I'll wait for my spacers then have my local machinist cut them to 5mm counter bore one end and machine a locating nipple at the other
so it should be as designed. Thanks for the 5mm tip, DUH

Stupid question, should the front wheel be balanced with the rotors on?

I think you are right, owner claims the 320 mm rotors were on his bike, I think he had spacers and either sold them or lost them.  I had some  machined, I like the idea of having bigger rotors.
