Bike died 3 times on the way to work - Electrical

Left the house today on my 07 VFR800, got 10 miles away and the bike started having issues. Voltmeter died, gages all went dead, my FI light came on, and I lost engine power. Came back on and did the same thing twice within about 10 seconds. Turned around and road back home. I'm thinking that it could be the R/R but I am not sure. This happened once last week where I lost power real quick and I looked down quick enough to just catch the FI light go off. Didn't think anything of it at the time but hindsight is 20/20. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

That's not a safe situation for you to ride!
Start with simple and obvious things like loose battery connections, wires and simple shorts.
Check voltage of battery and charging system numbers and report back.

Sounds like the charging system. Go check it out.

Mine started to do this two weeks ago. My stator turned out to be stuffed but usually this issue is caused by the main 30 amp fuse holder overheating and causing the ECU to lose power momentarily. Check your 30 amp fuse holder and all wiring near it for corrosion. The wire between the fuse holder and the connector is a good test as well, because if this feels very stiff it means the insulation has been burnt and has hardened.

RR? The RR on the 6th gen, is one of the most reliable parts, so Id not suspect that at the top of the list. Your on a 5 year old battery if its original, highly more likely, but as suggested look at all your connections, and a dose of wd40, avoid Dielectric grease its an insulator, and will aide in heat build up as a result.

How many miles on your '07? Some thing fail with age and miles. It may just be a battery, but as the miles pile up other items can cause problems.

I had a similar issue in Ohio the week before last. It wound up being the stator. I had a fantastic experience with a local bike shop. Once I assemble the pics I intend on posting a thread. Having another issue now.. researching the plethera of info here- thanks for all the efforts to you the members...Dean.

New battery 2 weeks ago. '07 is DEAD. Thankfully in the garage. I'm cornfused. (pissed)

Troubleshooted charging system with Maxswell. Leak test - passed, Stator continuity test - passed, charging test with motor running - passed 14.21 volts steady. Concllusion - 2 week old battery is bad. These new sealed type batteries have no born on date. Could have been sitting on wharehouse shelf for who knows. Buyer beware ! Save all battery reciepts. Well while you're down there gettin cozy with the battery don't forget to check the 30A fuse AND the starter/main relay as mine just gave me the same issues and I have totally melted my relay and connector :mad: parts en route from wiremybike..........

Sorry I haven't gotten back to people on this but I've been very busy at work. In terms of the electrical checks I haven't done these yet (not very familiar so it will take some research on my part). I did do a visual of the wires behind the battery near the 30A fuse and connections. The red wire with the yellow stripe coming out of the 30A fuse and going into the connector is pretty cooked, so I'm going to replace that today. The 30A fuse is fine here, gonna check the other 30A fuse as well today. The battery is original and has 42,000 miles on it, so I should probably replace this just as a precaution if nothing else. We'll see where this takes me after replacing the one wire and checking the starter fuse. Thank you for all the help. Any suggestions on where to find some info for performing the electrical checks would be appreciated.
