Is the Vtec inherently cold blooded? My '09 VFR800 is very difficult to ride away smoothly on the first start of the day. The idle speed is fine, somewhere ~2K, but as I let out the clutch the engine bogs. That requires more throttle and then I start to seem like a prat.
The bike has been this way since I bought it new last year. No fi codes have ever displayed, it is fine after warm-up, and fuel mileage is good.
This is my fifth VFR but the first with the wax fast idle unit. Both my 5th gen VFR800s had the fast idle(i.e.. choke) lever and were easy to ride almost as soon as the engine had fired.
I had no luck finding similar complaints on this forum and haven't had a chance to ride another Vtec for comparison. What say you?
Your in Canada , so I consider that cold weather year round, and in cold weather, Id atleast let it idle till it gets a temp reading around 95 degrees before taking off. Having said that. I never start a cold motor and immediately take off, always give it 30 seconds or a minute. So I guess I havent tested what your doing, But if you not at full temp 160 by 2 miles, it may be your thermo is stuck open, and the bike isnt warming up quickly.
Since I have to ride several blocks to get to any open roads, I just start the bike and ride away. No high RPM riding until the temperature is above 160.
No bog, no hesitation, it just goes.
It's a 2004 and while I do have a PC3, the cold start running was the same before the PC.
I bought the bike in February of 2011 and disabled the PAIR valves in March of 2011. We don't have Canadian cold here, but I do sometimes ride in 40 degree fahrenheit temps.
I really don't remember that the PAIR valve mod made any difference in cold starts/warm up, but I don't think it did.
I wonder if the changed ECU for 2006 and later might be set for leaner running.

I have the exact same set up and experience with my '08 - just hit the starter and ride it.
i have to let my bike idle for a minute or two before i take off or else it tends to bog down with cold. i have a very similar set-up as above w/ K&N, leo vince aluminum cans & a PCIII. i honestly just don't really worry about it. hasn't caused me any problems to date and i've had the bike for 4 years now...
