Exhaust connections (electrical things, not connected?) Help Identify Please - Sixth Generation VFR's

Hello,

While doing my oil change today and coolant flush, I noticed that right next to the water pump, there are two wires coming from the exhaust (it looks like spark plugs), but they are not connected and just hanging free.

I'm sure there's nothing wrong but was wondering what the purpose was.

Also that Evap canister is in the way of my filter and I'd like to get rid of that too, I'll have to do a search.

That would be your 02 sensors, if you look at the opposing plugs that with be around same area there is probably what looks like caps plugged into them which are 02 sensor eliminators which would be reason exhaust mounted sensors with cable/plug hanging off them aren't plugged in.

I looked under the cover boot and yes, there are two plugs that are capped, learned something new today!

So can these O2 sensors just be removed and plugged? I'm assuming they serve no function as they are not connected?

Leaving them in the exhaust hurts nothing. If you want them gone for looks alone, yes you can remove them and plug the holes. IIRC it's a different thread, (metric) but I haven't owned one, so look around. I don't think pipe plugs from the hardware store are gonna do it.

I think they are 18mm x 1.50, but do check to confirm.

Thank you for that info, was this a mod done by the previous owner when he installed the power commander and exhaust? I'd prefer to remove items that just take up space, I believe less is better, it's not in the way but same with the evaporator canister, removing this will get me better access to the filter!

I would be careful removing the 02 sensor eliminators since you have a PC installed ... the PC map could be set up to run with on the O2 being inactive.

Someone wiser than I could confirm .. but I think I am correct on this.

He wants to remove the old unused o2 sensors themselves from the header pipe and plug them off.

Correct, since they're not in use, I'd rather have them out, the wires coming out of it are just in the way, not really but I'm the type who'd rather have if removed if it serves zero purpose.

Next would be the evap system but that might mess up my injection, I'll have to research that more.
