I have been using this set up for quite a few years with excellent results here in the Mountains.

The wireless transmitter sends a signal to a receciver with an LED at your eye.

I love my system, my wife and I both have this as well as a lot of the guys I ride with.

I use a wire to the ear, but your right $500 to $1000 dollar of highend equipment wiill save thousands of dollars down the road, worth every penny. As far as LED to the eye, Ive not tried it, over to the ear, I do like hearing what is hitting me without having to decifer, what the light means. .

When it comes to instant on Ka band, reaction time is critical, not sure which is quicker wireless light, or direct wire to the ear. Wireless in most computer systems is slightly slower than hard wire, but if you dont like wire to ear, the light is a good alternative.
