tips needed on cowl stay repair

Well... i had a partial tip over at a gas station the bike fell against a pillar but the mirror absorbed the fall or so i thought. When i got home i found that the fairing stay was bent.

My question is, what is the best way to bend it back and is it salvageable or should i just get a new one?

My thought was to heat it up and bend it back into place. It is not very noticeable until i turn the bars all of the way to the right.

Take the bodywork off the front to expose the stay, then slip a pipe over it and tweak it. Reinstall front clip to check alignment. Lather, rinse, repeat until it's fixed.

Pain in the rear, but a lot cheaper than the alternative!

Where is this cowl stay located? Just curious.

It's the metal sub frame that supports the front cowl and headlights and such. It also supports the mirror stalks. Replacements are from 120 to 170 bucks. I think i just about have this problem licked.
