Dearly beloved, we are gathered here to witness the passing of..........The original battery in my 2002 DR650se. I've never seen a battery go 10 years before much less in a bike. This has less than 15,000 miles and is daily ridden weather permitting. I had to boost it once last winter but it has worked like a champ until this afternoon. I hitched a ride the 3 miles to my house. I had purchased a new battery several months ago and left it on the work bench, waiting to be filled and charged. It's in and life is good again. The original in my 2000 Dakota went 9 years and the replacement didn't make 3. I've been doing good with batteries for the last 10 years but that won't make up for years ago when 3 years was the most life I got out of anything. :biggrin:

10 years and only 15,000 miles?? Ridden daily? You must have used the battery in another bike for the first part of its life. Or is it 150,000 miles??
In any case, 10 years is great for any battery. Did that long with my wife's Civic. You sure got your money's worth!! I'M on my 4th year on my vfr battery and I'm getting quite nervous. I would be happy if I had to replace it this year--I usually expect 3 good years of my motorcycle batteries.

Polarbear, I live in a small town. It's a mile to the downtown area and 1/2 mile to work. The starter has been given a fabulous workout.
The original Yuasa (maintenance free GRT) battery that came in my 1994 ST1100 lasted over 10 years...and even then it only proved to be not up to the task one day when I tried to fire up my ST when temperatures were in the thirties and she had been sitting unused for several weeks. The starter still spun the engine briskly, but there didn't seem to be enough juice left over to fire the spark plugs reliably.
The replacement battery is still going strong more than 7-years later and as a result my ST has logged over 92k miles and 17 1/2 years (so far) on two batteries.
I've become a huge believer of the benefits gained by keeping a Deltran Battery Tender Plus connected when your vehicles may not be used for a week or more!
