Fellow forum member Viethorse is in the U.S. visiting from Vietnam. He came primarily for business but expressed an interest in riding some of the finest roads the U.S. has to offer. Since I am such a humanitarian and ambassador of goodwill I volunteered the services of myself and Wrestler to show him around the roads of Western Carolina / Eastern Tennessee next weekend Oct 12-15. I've rented a 3 bedroom cabin with full kitchen in Robbinsville, NC not far from the Cherohala and we have 1 extra bed and 1 extra futon for anyone who is interested in joining us. I'm pretty sure we also have a couch in addition to being able to provide floorspace to anyone who wants to crash on the floor with a sleeping bag. We'll be arriving on Friday during the day and staying for 3 or 4 days. The cabin is paid for through Tuesday the 15th. but Wrestler and I can only stay until Monday so anyone who wants to stay Monday night can make use of the two extra beds that night. There is a full kitchen in the cabin as well as a washer/dryer for laundry / bedsheets.
In addition to this I also have two motel rooms reserved in my name for Oct 12,13,14 that also very close to the Cherohala (San Ran Motel) I reserved these 2 rooms prior to renting the cabin and can only keep the reservations until Tuesday. If you are interested in joining us for a few days and want your own motel room (2 beds per room) I can call the motel and switch the reservation to your name. The motel is not far from where we are staying and you are more than welcome to hang out with us and have dinner / BBQ's with us in the evenings after our rides before heading back to crash for the night. Rooms are virtually impossible to find this time of year with such short notice so don't think twice because once I let them go on Tuesday they will get snatched up quick. We are going to show Viethorse a good ole' time so post up if you have any interest in joining us!!
I have a spare bike, an 09 Kawasaki Versys that is fantastic in the mountains. Lately I ride the Versys more than I ride the VFR, in fact I used the little Kawi to lead a couple of sizable group sport rides the last couple of months. It is a tall bike though. I could get the bike to Robbinsville fairly easily but further south would be dicey due to a busy week but Donna and I may be able to work something out. I live in Knoxville and Robbinsville is 2 hours away...but what a great 2 hours of riding.
BR, if you need a place to stay we have a spare room. The room is small and packed with our spare stuff as we are preparing to build or buy a new home but there is just enough room to sleep in there. Nothing beer and aspirin can't compensate for so I keep plenty of both. More importantly there is room in the garage for the bike.
Hour and a half to the gap from my house when The Girl is riding with me...somewhat less when it is just me.
Not sure of my schedule yet, but I'd like to come up and run the Gap with y'all. I wouldn't be able to stay, but being 45 min away from the gap makes it easy. Shoot me a email when you get your schedule planned and I'll let you know when and where I'll be able to meet up and ride.
For those of you going to to the Dragon - if you haven't already - please sign this petition to ban trucks from the dragon. They only need 300 or so more signatures. Adam and I just got back so I don't think I will be making it. Beware of hiding 5-0 on the Skyway!

Maybe I'll just fly to Knox in my private Jet and pick up the Versys instead of riding over! :idea3:
I'll check the runway lights and you can just land at our private airport then catch the helicopter shuttle to the house. The Versys is getting new rubber tomorrow so it will be ready to go.
OK it looks like we will have a full cabin. The cabin sleeps 6-8 people (not including the couch) and I'll also be bringing a couple of inflatable mattress. This is going to be fun!!! Wrestler, Viethorse and myself will be arriving Friday during the day so please let me know when you are planning on arriving/leaving. P.S. the cabin has a hot tub so bring a swim suit if you please.
I doubt I'll be an overnighter, I'm still not home from Seb's Catskills ride! I'll probably head out Saturday and try to hook up with you guys somewhere. Or maybe just Sunday depending on my Saturday schedule.
Howdy.... I am so happy and really excited to be there this weekend with you all... Don't know how to say to thank you for making this materialized. Just really appreciate that.I I will be done my task here in Texas end of Thursday and take an early fly to Georgia. I think I have all my necessary riding gears with me: I have done a really fun ride with some awesome Texans bikers. I will share the pics later on.

Better check that mileage again, are you sure you don't have an extra zero in there somewhere? Glad you had an awesome trip and got a few quality days of riding in our gorgeous fall weather and colors!! We expect you to start an awesome summary thread when you get home with lots of pics. See you tonight for your going away from Atlanta dinner!!

Oops... Too excited, so.... Corrected: 1,393miles. I don't know how in the world I can get the above figure.... Just because having a bottle of Blue Moon, without having lunch!
VH, you had some decent weather and you picked a great time of year to ride in this area. Glad to hear it worked out for you. Wish you could be here this weekend while I break in another set of tires in the mountains.
Damn Adam forced me to follow his S1000 across the Cherohala and the Bailey Rock pushed me so hard coming back I wore out both tires last Saturday. At least he was a gentleman and didn't pass the RW&B rolling chicane show. The run over was a nice run...thanks for the lead Adam.
Switchblade, you riding this weekend? Great weather predicted. We should cruise over to 215 and wind our way back home from there.
