I love this thread but it is murder waiting for it to load!!!!
I thought that's not the first and the only one facing that issue. There were many trip report threads of mine and others with lots of pics, which ppl like to see. However the pages were too heavy made the loading very slow. Sometimes I just need to see the latest (newest) post, however it takes long time to load the whole heavy page. IMO, there are something we could do to avoid this:
1. Not to post so many pics in the thread, or all the pics mus be very small size. 2. Buy a faster computer. 3. To limit number of pics on one page. For example, limitation is 15 pics, the pic #16 to #30 will be automatically be in the next page. And so on.
Well, option 3 seems to be the best option to choose... Appreciate your help. Have a nice week! VH.

The only delays I've had recently were PatrickM's pics from his "Well, You're a long way from home" 21 day trip blog and I've had to wait about 45 seconds for those pic heavy posts but I must say those are WORTH THE WAIT! Remember, I'm a postal guy and fast scares me!

I've had no issue with image heavy threads, even from work and that's saying something...
Work server is in HongKong, I am in Oz so all requests are routed half way around the globe before they get to me... Running SPEEDTEST from work, my maximum D/L speed is 0.35mb, so in reality not that much faster than bloody dial-up and painfully slow compared to ADSL/cable...
I think the problem exists when your browser forgets it has already seen the page, and thus reloads, and when the images are hosted offsite, like VietHorse is doing. But then hosting them here messes with his own watermark.
the test says I am at 9.8mbs. each time I go to a picture thread, it scrolls/loads for about 2 mins. But it doesnt really bother me and I am sure I could optimize my computer if I knew how to.

I buy a Pro Account on Photobucket and it works find with other sites.
Don't really get you on the watermark things. But the watermark is made before I uploaded to Photobucket. And I prefer to put my photos there for ease of editing and sharing with other sites when needed as well.
You guys got me curious so I did a check. For me either IE or Chrome load the pic heavy Viethorse trip page(s) in under 5 seconds. Speedtest ~ 15 mbs. Running XP, 3.2 M of RAM, 3.2G processor.

Your test is after HS has changed the forum setting. It's now much lighter than 4hrs ago.
Trung, you have a watermark on your pix. If you host them on VFRD, you get a VFRD watermark, which will be "pasted" over your watermark, making it look messy.
All I'm saying is that hosting the pix on VFRD will make them faster to load than hosting them elsewhere, but I dont have a problem with the speed of the loading anyway, so lets not worry about it !!
I'd say each poster needs to look/self-control the number of pictures.......... does each one really bring something "new" to the story or is it just another shot of the same road but a slightly different turn.....

And each situation is different...I am on a pretty fast network at work, but the images from VFRD galleries in particular load very slowly. It's not due to VFRD, but due to the firewall at work. At home, everything is lickity-split..
Increased the pics per post limit to 50 since there are tons of threads with around that many, some maint guides were not rendering, not acceptable so I increased it again.
Yes BR is correct the gallery would be faster to use, and the images in there are not even 15% of the capacity yet. 915.64 GB total, 111.67 GB used

FWIW I have not experienced any problems when reading pic heavy ride reports at home or at work.

By posting a quality, not sheer quantity series of pictures.
Yours and others are a joy to watch, some are less. But this is a free country and each effort made by a member here for our entertainment is welcome.
If I come across a thread that does not tickle my fancy, then that is 1st and foremost "my problem". But since the question was asked....
I fully understand and enjoy that a 3 week trip across the USA takes up lots and lots of piccies.... Keep 'm coming!

LOL Yea right, I think it was part of the upgrade and it was defaulted to that setting, not gonna change it since it shortens up the overall page rendering.
