I just received my Rapid Bike 2 Module Friday and installed it yesterday. I've got some pictures and information on it, if anyone is interested. I already started a thread on vfrworld and I will post up the details here too if any of you guys are interested. The Rapid Bike module is a piggy back computer like the bazzaz and power commander but it has way more features and allows 3 dimensional mapping of both fuel and ignition curves.

Here is the Universal Rapid Bike 2 Module unplugged from the motorcycle and Rapid Bike Motorcycle specific Harness.

The 20 pin connection plugs directly into the Rapid Bike Module and the 4 pin connection allows adjusting the RB while installed in the motorcycle.

Haha well I thought it was a pretty cool mod. I have been searching for a way to adjust the ignition timing on these bikes for 4 years now, and finally got it. Now just to get the quickshifter functioning, headers ceramic coated, throttlebodies ported out a little and then I will take it to the dyno for a real tune.

Also, what is the thought on having a quick shift sensor? does it blip the throttle automatically for you for better clutch less shifts?

Could you generate a map with this thing then do an ECU flash?

No power Commander doesn't do timing. they offer a seperate igntion module for some bikes, but not ours. Even if they did that would run you $600 total and you would have wires all over your bike.

A quick shift sensor, senses when you apply pressure to the shift lever, and then automatically cuts fuel and/or timing to reduce power for 30-100 ms in order to allow clutchess full throttle shifts.

As far as I know you can not flash our ecu's. You can flash some gixxers and the new R1 though.

It plugs in the same way regular power commanders plug in (through the grey 10 way fuel connection), but also utilizes the red 2 wire connection (crank sensor pick up for ignition control) right next to the grey connection. This is so much cleaner than Power Commander plugging into each individual coil.

I am not sure if they have the Rapid Bike 2 (fuel and ignition) applications for the fifth gen. But they definitely have the Rapid Bike ! available (fuel only). Give Lenny a call and see what he can do for you.

Like everyone else just found this post. So when are you going to spend soem time tuning the fuel & ignition timing ? I'm very interested in the ignition timing as I have only seen info from one previous ignition timing experiment & that was a PC2 where 4 degrees of advance was added & the thing wouldn't run properly. They never tried lesser amounts of advance. So let us know how you get on.

I have basically just been throwing another 0.5 degrees advance at it every day and driving around on it and seeing how it responds. I am at 4 degrees advance now tapering to 2 degrees by redline. It seems to be benefiting from more timing, but who really knows till I get the time and funds to throw it on the dyno. Also, I am not really sure what to do with the top end though. I figured advancing the top would make power, but all the maps that I am looking at are showing little to no advance up top, and some even pull timing off.

I have posted screen shots of the software all over this thread. It is more involved than Power Commander software. I don't think this specific Rapid bike can datalog, but I am sure some of the other Rapid Bike modules have that capability. I have not dyno'd yet but I will within a month or so. So far, seat of the pants tell me the bike is stronger, but we will see when i get to the track if my trap speed goes up.

Today Lenny from Rapid Bike logged in on my laptop and did a live tutorial for me and also ran through all the settings. The hands on tech support that comes with Rapid Bike is awesome! With my laptop plugged into my bike, Lenny was able to adjust all my settings and run diagnosis on the Rapid Bike from the other side of the country. It was literally like I had a professional mechanic make a house call to my friends garage, to lend a hand. We tweaked all the settings on the quickshifter and now it is fully operational and shifting at 61 milliseconds!!! That is unbelievably fast, race bike fast! And I am glad to report, not one missed shift all day. This blows my old set up out of the water!

No that is the whole point. You literally hold the throttle pinned wide open, and kick up gears, no clutch either! The shift sensor detects when you apply pressure to shift mechanism, and it cuts fuel for 30-100 milliseconds, at what ever rpm range you want it to operate at.

I have it set at 61 milliseconds and functioning at 6000 plus rpms.

It only operates when you apply pressure to the shifter with no clutch, so it will still operate normal if you chose to do so. It also works at what ever throttle you desire, not just wide open. So you can hold it at, say 25% throttle and just kick up gears, with out letting off the gas or touching the clutch!

still WAAAAAAY cheaper than PC haha. It makes me think of the AEM ECU's that i have set up for foreign cars. Having this much control over fuel and timing takes the power to the next step, adding fuel only takes you so far. Pick an amount of fuel that puts your bike at a little bit rich and then bump up the timing by .5 degrees at the top end (where the hp peaks) until you get your peak power numbers. As soon as you add too much the bike will start losing juice and teeter out... Then start working your way down the charts, you will know as soon as you add too much timing, like on old 350's we would just turn the distributor until it would start to knock then turn it back just enough so it doesn't anymore and call it good :)

This is where I am at so far and I have not heard any knocking what so ever yet. You can really feel it in the bottom end but I don't know if its doing anything up top. How will I know when I advanced the top too much? Will it just start losing power or knock or what? I might just stop here...

This is where I am at so far and I have not heard any knocking what so ever yet. You can really feel it in the bottom end but I don't know if its doing anything up top. How will I know when I advanced the top too much? Will it just start losing power or knock or what? I might just stop here...

detonation (knocking) will definitely occur when you turn it too high, don't let it do it too much it is not good, especially if it is bad detonation. but i will say i have never tuned a bike and while it can't be that much more different than cars, i have never dealt with such high rpms and it would be fun for me to tinker with haha.

But i will also say that i just looked at some AEM charts i had saved and my timing charts look very similar to some that i have even though they use the MAF to calculate load which this program might do but i didn't think the VFR's had MAF's but only had MAP's. It does look like your butt is pretty damn accurate though haha. I would add a tad to the 8000-9000 and see where that takes you, sometimes when you get that high tho it is hard to dyno it with your butt... frankly hauling ass feels like hauling ass haha.

Also how are your fuel tables coming along? Do you have a wide band hooked up? That would help you get the fueling accurate, also are the 02's deleted? Otherwise your bike will be fighting with the tuner the whole time

Yup o2 sensors are deleted. Unfortunately I have not found a way to run a wide band yet. I will probably just get a dyno tune done in a few months after I do a few more things.

you will probably have to run a separate wideband a/f with its own gauge and just data log it.

There are numerous options you can choose from. I like the slc diy over at 14point7.com but you can also get an aem uego, innovate lc1 and a gauge, and a handful of others in the automotive world that would get the job done. I like the SLC because it's a gauge and controller that you build yourself and it uses a pretty cheap Bosch o2 sensor. The innovate is quality as well if you're not wanting to build your kit and everything.

I have used many glowshift gauges (www.glowshiftdirect.com) and haven't had and issues except with their fuel pressure senders going hay wire from time to time. We've used A/F gauges, pyro, boost, EGT's, oil press, oil temp, battery voltage, and vacuum and never had any issues with those, only the fuel pressure gauges. And they send us a new sensor within a week, but 6 months later same thing. Aside from those i haven't used any of their other gauges and all of those were the black or white 7 color ones.

Talked to Lenny who seems like he knows a few things about the business and tuners (understatement, i think he owns the joint haha). He told me that hurricane Sandy really hit them hard, and while they still can answer phone calls it is going to take longer then expected to reply to emails because there are spotty electrical coverage there and he is currently prepping for a snow storm that is about to blow through. As for the modules, the Rapid Bike 2 Module, with fuel and timing adjustments IS available for the 5th gen on sale for the $245 price. Then ther is also the fuel only module at $195. All that is needed besides that is the cables which seem a little high at $59 but hey can't complain that much! He said though that if you wanted to make an order or anything that it may take a few extra days (2-3) before he can ship because of the issues with power and so forth. As for the website not showing the RP2 module he said that their new website should be up any day now and all of the products will be updated for each of the bikes. Seems like a very nice and straight forward guy, doesn't give you the run around. I will probably be ordering my module here soon, will also add feed back on the quality of the product and customer service when that time comes, if that is ok with the OP.

I wont have too many more updates for a while. I pretty much have everything rapped up. The quick shifter and software is amazing and my bike is running better and stronger than ever. I should be putting it on the dyno with in the next month or so. That will be my next big update, so feel free to keep the thread alive for me.

P.S. I will vouch for Lenny, he is hands down the best guy in the Performance and Tuning industry that I have had the pleasure of working with. Just be patient with everything, because of all the Hurricane Sandy and blizzard stuff they've been going through up there in New York. I had my doubts at first, but It is totally worth the wait and hopefully they'll get it to you quickly.

i don't know about taking over :blush: you are gonna make me blush! But i just wanted to make sure that i can post some of the information here that i gather from the tuner for the 5th gen. I might just make my own thread and just link it from there, no telling. I will probably order next weekend

So my plans now are, save some money and get the headers and exhaust ceramic coated, and port the throttle bodies in the mean time (get those ridges and factory casting lines off). After that's done, then its dyno time. I kind of want to see if i can find a Two Bros header, get that coated and then sell my Motad header on here and try to recoup some money, But Lenny says the Two Bros header isn't worth it ($600 or $700!!!!!). I just mainly can't do the down time thing though, this bike is my only means of transportation.

Any Ideas???

Sounds like a plan! I had my stocke headers ceramic coated and it makes traffic nice haha. Would love to see the dyno charts, I plan on doing a very basic tuning until I get on a dyno or get a A/F gauge for mine

Heres pictures of my porting the throttle bodies this weekend. Mainly I just wanted to ensure that my velocity stacks matched up perfectly to the air box (velocity stacks are off of a 2002 R6 so they are 38mm and required matching), and I wanted to get rid of all the factory casting marks/lines:

Please tell me you did not do the matching like that on the live throttle bodies !?

Those small holes between the velcotiy stacks are the idle jet air intakes & they are now contaminated with plastic filings !

Those lead to the air correctors & that rubbish could block them &/or stop them being adjusted !

If those are R6 velocity stacks, how are they going to be locked in place ? I assume the 6th gen airbox is held in place the same as the 5th gen, by screws in the velocity stacks ! Those R6 ones don't appear to have that facility!

Why did you change them ? The VS's on my 5th gen are 40mm at the trumpet tapering to 36mm for the throttle body which is the same size TB on the 6th gen !

Have you adjusted the length of the VS's ? Are they two different lengths like the 6th gen originals ?

Yeah I figured that out half way through all the dremeling and just pulled the cover off and cleaned the idle port off and flushed them out, no big deal, not very much got in there, they are fine.

The R6 velocity stacks are epoxied on to the bottom of the air box. They are of flexible material so you can still get to the screws just fine.

I changed the factory VS out because they slid into the barrels of the throttle bodies effectively reducing them from 36mm to 34mm.

The R6 VS sit perfectly flush with the air box and are of staggered length like the factory stacks. They are just a tad shorter and wider overall, so no major changes, just a little cleaning up. I would say I removed a decent amount of material along with the ridges in the throttle bodies, so now they're probably a millimeter wider at the entrance, slowly tapering to factory right at the butterfly.

Trust me when I say this, the bike lost no bottom end torque. I did not do any porting below the butterflies or to the heads. No air velocity was lost through the bottom half of the throttle bodies or cylinder heads. All I did was clean everything up on the way into the throttlebodies. I do not believe you would get anything out of this unless you have a full exhaust, open air box, and pipercross air filter. But I do believe once this is all done, that the advanced timing brings a lot of low end torque and the velocity stacks and cleaning up adds a considerable amount up top. The bike has pulled very hard off of the bottom since I advanced the ignition timing and continues to do so just as hard since I did the dremeling, it just pulls harder up top now too.

Yesterday my friend and I went for an all day ride. He has a dead stock mint 2006 cbr600rr. This bike was a little faster than mine up top last month.
We did various roll ons from around 40-80.
In 6th gear I would walk away from him.
In fifth I would walk away.
In fourth I would walk away a little quicker.
In third it was more like a jog.
In second I would literally run away from him.
We did high speed and high rpm roll ons as well. Every time the Veefer would just walk away.
Towards the end of the day I started to get a little generous and was actually starting to feel bad. I gave him a second or two head start from high way speed at high rpms, and literally reeled him in and jogged by before having to shut her down. Nothing has changed with his bike, its stock, garaged and driven on weekends or down time. He was blown away and said, "Damn the VFR is fucking Fast now!"

I am going to try and make it to the track tonight. My best time so far is 11.2 at 120mph. 2 weeks ago I ran an 11.3 at 119. If I am trapping above 122 tonight I will be a happy camper and hopefully have some numbers to give you guys instead of just running my mouth.

Oh and the Best part is, everything was recorded on his go pro. I am not sure how good of an idea it would be to post it up on here legality wise but I can't wait to watch all the videos. Hopefully you can't make out my plate.

I just talked Lenny at Rapid Bike. It seems that they are fresh out of stock and I got one of the last ones for a while. I guess they're shipping them out as fast as they're being built over in Italy. Sorry for the bad news sorry guys, I guess I got lucky on that one. If only I could get that lucky with a Two Brothers Racing Header.

So last night went pretty good at the drag strip. I picked up about three mph. I usually always trap at 119 ish and one time when the planets aligned, aka perfect conditions, I ran a 120.0. This is over the course of almost three years and no modifications. Last night I was pulling consistent 122s with my fastest run at 122.50 and 11.29 and my quickest run being an 11.23. The bike was a handful with the added power (a lot more low end torque). Getting out of the was easy at first, but as i started approaching 11.20 I started fight major wheelies in first. Really any time I rolled the throttle open in first she wants to stand up. I could probably knock off a tenth or two after a few more nights. She is very consistent with the added quick shifter, shift kit and 100 pound clutch springs. I did the math and the veefer has the power to run 10.90 right now, but that is going to be very hard with out flipping. I am going to invest in some front end straps and see how much that helps. Also hopefully I will still Pick up some more power and another mph or two after I get the bike tuned properly on a dyno.

Not bad at all. That is roughly a 7.72% gain in horsepower. Also that is untuned, and me versus a professional driver on the fastest stock vfr I have seen so far, so I think that I am being pretty conservative here and there is plenty of room for improvement.

I am not sure, I've never used them. But, hopefully it will let me launch harder with out wheeling all over the place. Maybe a tenth or two? For $30 bucks its worth a shot right?



I have ran run much lower 60 foot times before. I just need to put in some seat time with this whole set up. I found my self thinking a few times last night, "oh shit am i shifting up or down? uh green light ooops." Between the added power and my feet being in a new spot, I basically need to relearn how to run the bike.

The added low end torque is great. It really just makes the bike feel twice as fast as it really is. The bike just does not have to try that hard at all anymore to go fast. There feels like there is twice as much power in the 2000-8000 rpm and 5%- 50% throttle range. But really, there is added power everywhere below 11,500 rpms.

1.9 60ft isn't bad at all man, 1.8 is damn fast with a 1.6 being insane, even for a lot of cars. Now of course theres drag cars and so forth that will cut 1.2-1.4's but 1.8 would be really fast, that is really getting out of the hole

I can run a 1.8 no problem. With the heavier clutch springs, the clutch is much easier to modulate at high rpms. Its still no 600 ninja, but leaving the gate at 5 or 6 grand is pretty drama free. I ran a 1.818 last night, but I hit the limiter in third on that run. A few months back when I ran an 11.216 my 60 foot was in the high 1.7 second range, its possible, but hard to repeat. The problem now is with the added power I have to worry more about keeping the front wheel on the ground, whereas before, it wasn't too big of a deal. Hopefully when I strap the front end down. it will get easier to repeat and maybe make 1.6's possible. And then after I am strapped and tuned, maybe we will see 10.9's? But, I may need a new set of clutch plates first.

After reading this, I want more torque too :) but I am not a fan of tinkering with fuel maps myself.

Would you be willing to share your map or settings and how difficult would it be to install it on another bike?

I've got two fuel/ignition maps for the vfr800 vtec. One for a stock vfr and one for a modded. I also have one fuel map for a 5th gen vfr. It is no harder to install or load maps than a power commander. I wouldn't tinker with the maps unless you really know what you're doing, but the map that my Rapid Bike came loaded with is great. It actually feels better than the one that I had made on a dyno for my bike. I haven't touched the fueling, but I did add some timing. I am going to put it on the dyno in a few months and get it perfected. I will share that map with whoever wants it too, but these maps are NOT compatible with power commander.

I can only speak for the Rapid Bike module I bought from Rapid Bike USA. I exchanged a lot of emails with Lenny and was on the phone with him a few times a week for a couple months sorting everything out before he shipped my module out. So he was aware of my setup and all my modifications. He was kind enough to load the map for me before shipping it out. But, basically it was just a base map for an 06 vfr800 with air box and exhaust mods. It was basically just to get me close to where I should be, before I put it on the dyno. But, it wound up being a better map than the one that I had made for my power commander a few years back. I am still going to put it on the dyno in a few months when I find my self a good tuner in the Florida area.

Now if you buy a Rapid Bike from another source like ebay or something, I would expect to have to load one in there yourself. Like I said, its not a big deal. If you're compitent enough to load a map in a power commander, you'll be fine loading a map in a Rapid Bike. I have a fuel/ignition map for a vtec vfr with mods, a fuel/ignition map for a stock vtec vfr, and a fuel map for a modded 5th gen as well, for any one that wants it. Also if anyone wants to go further and do velocity stacks and throttle body porting, I'll let them get the custom map for that after I get my bike tuned.

all of the vfr 800 2002-2009 hardware should be the same. only the mapping would change, so the 2006-2009 vfr800 are basically the same. i do not know why they only have it listed until 2006. that may have been the last year that they produced the rapid bike 2 modules. i am pretty sure that they have been out of production for a while. i do have the rapid bike o2 eliminators on my bike and i think lenny threw them in for free. i am not positive but i would assume that they would be the equivalent of running the 330 ohm resistors or the power commander or bazzaz eliminators.

the rapid bike 1 2 and 3 modules do not have that feature. that would be on the newer dimsport models like the rapid bike race or possibly the rapid bike evo. i guess it would be nice but i dont see the need. maybe one day i will get lucky and get the rapid bike race and adapter harness, or even just a rapid bike 3, but really i am more than pleased with the rapid bike 2. i would have gladly paid $600 just for the ignition advance alone.

I think what Lenny is going to tell you is that, he still has some module 1's left over and the module 2's are all sold out.

I am pretty sure that that has been the case for a long time.

i was working out the details on this one for years before i found out about rapid bike.

mohawk, wait till you feel the midrange shove of 4 degrees advance at 7000 rpms.

you literally slide all the way back in your seat, rolling the throttle open in 3rd gear.

it is intoxicating to say the least.

Candy did you ever get your bike to the dyno yet? Is the VTEC transision any better with your tune? I'd think with the ability to change timing and fuel some would should be able to smooth that out pretty well...

No because I always need to do one more mod before I tune it, then months and months go by and I'm to busy doing the next mod to get a tune. But that's the beauty of this. It will continually tune itself with every new mod that I do. But I will make sure to get some before and after dynos for you guys after the install.
