I find it interesting the progression of gear I have bought. I will list in order of purchase and reasons if appropriate:
1. Joe Rocket Atomic jacket
2. HJC CL-12 helmet (POS)
3. Joe Rocket Meteor gloves
4. Joe Rocket Phoenix pants (felt the need for leg protection)
5. Sidi Vertabrae II boots (felt the need for ankle protection)
6. Olympia gloves (no ventilation for the mild cold days)
7. KBC Euro helmet (wanted better comfort and got it)
8. Studio monitor ear plugs
9. AGV Ion jacket (wanted a leather jacket)
10. HJC leather pants (wanted better protection for track day).
11. Chatterbox (if you knew me, you would understand)
12. Deathrage winter gloves (for freezing cold mornings)
13. Fleece Balaclava
14. Shoei RF-11 Kato (needed better ventilation, and got it).
15. Frank Thomas carbon fiber gloves (for track days and regular riding on the street, ventilated)
16. Technic 7 back protector
17. Frank Thomas 1-piece suite (for track day protection)
That's if for now. Some new ear plug monitors and gloves at Laguna Seca next week.

Former UNIX sysadmin and consultant here. 20 months without income. What a long, strange trip it's been.
Which is why my VFR is 1993 instead of 2003.

Hoping to get a better-ventilated leather jacket soon, because the disposable income dissapears with the arrival of the little Redleg in January!
This will sound crazy but bear with me. This starts in 1972, Leather jacket, same as Denver police force. 1997, Road gear 550 jacket, liner, vents, padding, cool weather leather gloves and heavy winter gloves at the same time. Couple of months later, First gear nylon overpants with thinsulate. Couple of years later, Road gear Montana leather pants. More gloves, time moves on, more gloves. Now up to 5 pair. Last week, Dainese Luce 2 piece suit for track days and crazy days on the bikes. Dainese gloves also at the same time. Several years ago, I added Alpinestars boots. 2 helmets, both with age. Time to get a new one. Now if you look at this from a 30 year collection, it's not bad. If you look at my glove collection, I may need serious counciling. I haven't used the Dainese yet. The only thing real obvious about them is the coats zipper is left hand instead of right hand like every other piece of clothing I own. Since 1997, I have pit about 40,000 miles on my collection of bikes. I know thats' not heavy duty but I spend all day on a bike when I'm gone. If you don't have gear, you'll have some fun because of the weather or if you fall down. Oh, 1 rain suit, still in the wrapper. I live in the desert. The only time I got caught in serious rain, I was on a 200 mile trip when I traded the 97 Bandit 1200 for the 99 vfr800. I left the tail bag at home because I didn't think I could strap it on the vfr and not hurt the tail. I'm pretty sure I'm not done with this crazyness either. I really like good gear that works right.

100 pairs of shoes, 250 pairs of various sized dresses depending on the time of year, plus hats etc etc = 1 linear inch of space for my best suit.

Now that the boys are older, the disposable income has returned. $1000/month for private school is done and 4.25% mortgage is helping. :D
