Mounting the right case will entail chopping of the section that goes being the licence plate. It interferes too much with the Akrapovic.

At first I was going to vote higher, just for more clearance when leaned over, but looking at the pictures, I think the lower looks better and seems to follow the lines a little better, at least from behind.

Higher in case it floods !!!!!

Higher fabbing mounts will be easier closer to the bolt points.

I voted higher, though I might be inclined to lower them just enough to get the bend in the bracket to conform to the contour line in the rear cowl so that the bottom of the bag does not need to be kicked out (or maybe that can be done as shown, not sure) - that will keep the line of the bag vertical to the ground. 

The SW Motech bag mounts might provide some ideas for fabricating some sort of adapter that would make it easy to remove the mounts when the bags are not in use.  Not so much on the 6th gens, but on 5th gen models you hardly see the hardware with mounts removed.  That's my one beef with the 6th gen OEM hardware - once it's on, it's too much of a headache to take on and off, so I just leave it in place, even though I hate looking at it.  Since you'll be cutting and welding, might as well have it the way you want it.

I voted for the Cheech and Chong method.

I have not voted or studied the various arrangements but on general principals, if you have the leaned-over clearance, lower is better for weight distribution.

Ehhh........if nothing works,...........just go with an "Anti-Viagra" solution and buy some "SOFT" luggage instead...... :rolleyes:

I would watch going to high, one thing I didn"t like about my VFR is that the rack handles stick up above the seat. interfering with carrying things on the rear seat.  My Ducati and its bags sit below the seat, so I can carry oddball items.

To be honest, I think the lower looks like a bad mounting job being done. Ergo I voted higher.

It will be low, driven by the rear underseat bracket. No way to make it high w/o reengineering.

can someone with a 6th gen plus cases measure the  vertical clearance bottom case to ground please? ideally with bike off the centre stand.

I measured the left side bag up to the rear hinge pin and got 22 inches, or 56 cm.  Not sure it makes any difference - my shock is dialed up to max preload

I guess it wasn't all that intuitive.    This is looking good!  It hugs the lines of the rear cowl nicely and looks like it will be parallel to the ground when the bike's upright. 

at that point i got plenty since the case is slanted forward.  the front of the case is 42cm off the deck with me sitting on the bike.   so do you have the same 55cm clearance all along the bottom?

with them low and wide, is there a "drag yer bags" problem?

I will look into levelling the case a bit. I found some pics of my bike at TMAC and indeed the cases on a 6th gen are level to the ground/not tilted forward...
