I started on adjusting the valves tonight. Couldn't even get a .13mm in there, anywhere. After reading on here and elsewhere, it seems to be pretty common. Does there seem to be a large difference in engine behavior after the adjustment? I was expecting them to be loose. Did the factory set the tolerances closer?
On the up side, I looked at the cams and thought they were scored, then ran my finger across them.. just oil streaks! Talk about relief. There is minor wear, but not bad at all.
Shim in bucket valves tend to tighten with time as the valve seat wears. As long as the valves are closing, being a bit tight should not reduce perfomance. If the valves get too tight there could be damage from valves over heating. Good to get them in spec.
