Clutch Cover Removal Question - Earlier VFRs

I recently bought a good, used clutch cover for my VF1000F that will eventually replace my rashed cover.  Once I powder coat it, I'll be doing a swap.  On my 900F and 1100F, the clutch cover can be removed without draining the oil, as long as the bike is kept on the side stand and is tilting to the left.  Can I do the same thing with my Interceptor, or will I have to drain the oil?

And yes, I will be replacing the gasket.  It's on the bench as we speak...

If it is of any help, with my 1997 VFR750, there was no need to drain the oil. Just put it on the side stand.
